Huzzah!

This is when it's nice to know we have guys like Mark and Alan pulling for us.  Because, despite all the frustrating stuff that goes on in Beach Boys land, they're big fans--and they like putting interesting stuff out.

Now, if we could get everybody at EMI to be huge Beach Boys fanatics as well...

I'm guessing a few 45 A sides between, say, 1961 and 1996... but that's just me thinking aloud...  Roll Eyes

I can see the posts now - "why isn't "Catch A Wave" on this new comp ?"  Grin

Well, Andrew, if it's truly a "box" it'll be more'n'a few A sides.

Hopefully - if it's only the 60s A & B sides, that's a 2CD set, maybe 60 tracks.

I know the man to ask...  Smiley

Uh, the board of directors at EMI?  You'd have you work cut out for you and also ruin any chance of any future Beach Boys releases.  Also, you'd go to jail!

Such vitriol, in some people, kicking people's asses for releasing records (that we don't have to buy) from a band we love.  I'd hate to see what you want to do to people that put out records by acts you don't like.

Would there be a corresonding UK singles box release - perhaps with Sound of Free/Lady on it?

I was going to say, we may have to wait for the Poops and Hubba Hubba box set for that one.

Just got word from EMI that on June 9 a limited edition 16CD boxset will be released in The Netherlands, called "The US Singles Collection".

Even if all it is is 16 2-track CDs I think I'd get it. I have the first Stones set and The Beatles EP box and if they make the packaging nice enough, it could make for a great set.

If that's the format, color me excited.  Hopefully each disc will have bonus tracks like the Good Vibrations Single release (Stereo Remixes, Backing Track, Vocals Only, Session Highlights, etc.)

If it's just 16 'singles' out of over 70, then gentlemen, include me out.  Sad

I'm with you Andrew. Like I said elsewhere, there isn't enough time in the day to return to the CD player every time a CD single needs swapping, and I ain't wearing out my carpet for the sake of something that'd fit on one or two regular CDs.

Wasn't there a bootleg set of US singles quite recently, which amounted to 6CDs? Wonder if the "16" was a mistyping? I can't see Capitol EMI putting out a 6 CD set.

I'll buy it even if the only new thing was a 5 second snippet of an A Capella mix I hadn't heard before.

I guess I'm easy to please.

I might be in the minority here, but a singles box seems a little redundant, just another way for Capitol to milk the cash cow that is the Beach Boys. I mean, all of the singles are already on the countless comps and on all of the 2fers. I really don't care about "original single mixes". If there are previously only available in mono tracks getting remixed into stereo, then it might be worth it. But why not something like the Beatles Anthology for the Beach Boys. That would be a lot more appreciated by fans than yet another "compilation out just in time for summer".

But whatever's in store for the new comp, Linett's probably doing a fantastic job with it.

Its probably sixteen CD singles in tiny reprinted picture sleeves.

This seems especially likely, considering that there were EXACTLY 16 Capitol 45s originally issued with picture sleeves:

 1. "Surfin' Safari" b/w "409"
 2. "Ten Little Indians" b/w "County Fair"
 3. "Fun, Fun, Fun" b/w "Why Do Fools Fall in Love"
 4. "I Get Around" b/w "Don’t Worry Baby"
 5. "When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)" b/w "She Knows Me Too Well"
 6. "Wendy"/"Don't Back Down" b/w "Little Honda"/"Hushabye"
 7. "Dance, Dance, Dance" b/w "The Warmth of the Sun"
 8. "Do You Wanna Dance?" b/w "Please Let Me Wonder"
 9. "Help Me, Rhonda" b/w "Kiss Me, Baby"
10. "California Girls" b/w "Let Him Run Wild"
11. "The Little Girl I Once Knew" b/w "There's No Other (Like My Baby)"
12. "Barbara Ann" b/w "Girl Don't Tell Me"
13. "Sloop John B" b/w "You're So Good to Me"
14. "Good Vibrations" b/w "Let's Go Away For Awhile"
15. "Heroes and Villains" b/w "You’re Welcome"
16. "Darlin'" b/w "Here Today"

Interesting.  Plenty of Stereo Remix gold there.  Particularly numbers 5, 8a, 9a, 12b, and 16a.  Please God.
