"Farewell My Friend " was playing on my itunes when I saw your thread. I wonder what Carl would have thought of his brothers renaissance.

I would've killed for a "Wilson Bros." album on the Warners label, with the "WB" logo and Carl & Brian on the cover (Brian right underneath the "B")... they could've produced some good music together, as Carl died right when Brian was really starting to get his sh*t together.

It's sad. It's even sadder when I heard about it and knew nothing really about him or the band he was in. I am comforted to know at least my mom (Princeton '71!!) got to see them a few times with everybody still alive.

I wonder what the last ten years would have been like with him here. He is very missed.

Isn't it funny how you can sometimes "love" somebody without knowing them? I miss Carl like crazy. When I learned he died, it was like a family member died.

I remember feeling really, really alone that night. Nobody elese in the house, just me. I got out my old vinyl "Carl Wilson" LP and spun "Heaven", then went to bed. There seemed nothing else to do. That feeling when somebody really, really good is taken from the world...the world just automatically seemed shallower and lonelier. The next day I was in my car, and "Good Vibrations" was on the radio. Afterward, the DJ "We're gonna miss ya, buddy". And we still do, don't we.

I remember I cried and so did my father. I think only one or two celebrities have made me react the same. Carl had a warmth to him and while I knew he was sick, I kept hearing encouraging reports of him reovering. Very sad day.

Carl is the most wonderful human I've ever known, and I even didn't know him personally. And his voice is so beautiful, I am sure he is now in heaven, because that's where angels should be.

Time flies... I didn't know who he was when he died (actually I didn't know about his death until 1999 or 2000) because I wasn't a "true" fan by then. And I was only 10. But somehow I miss him a lot...
I have a special "Carl playlist CD" that I play on each 6th of February... And I unvariably end up crying.

To the best of my (and scientific) knowledge, 'heaven' does not exist. But let us fantasise for a moment about breakfast time heaven's kitchen. Carl's warming up the beans, John Lennon's on toast duties, Marvin Gaye's brewing up a cuppa, and Dennis has just returned after a heavy night with Keith Moon carousing with heavenly 'angels'....
But flippancy aside: Carl was a mighty talent who's death was tragically premature. For me, when he died, so did the Beach Boys. Still greatly missed 10 years on.

Like many others I didn't know who Carl was when he died since I've only been a fan since late 2005. But somehow from seeing a lot of footage, pictures, reading a lot of things about him, listening to session tapes as well as listening to the records we all know and love, I feel as I though I almost knew him. I miss him so much. His voice was so incredibly beautiful that it makes me sad that he's not around still singing some new songs. Even if he's singing average material, I wouldn't care because Carl always lifted the material up a notch with his amazing voice.
It would've been awesome if Dennis and Carl were still with us and they could've formed a trio, the Wilsons. Man that would've been amazing.
Thank you so much Carl for all those wonderful tunes you wrote such as Long Promised Road, Feel Flows, Angel Come Home, The Trader, Heaven, I Wish For You, Like A Brother and every other tune that you gave us. And thank you for all your beautiful vocals over the years!!
R.I.P. Carl. We all love and miss you!!

In Manchester (UK) where I live the 6th Feb is full of people getting sad because of the "Munich Air Disaster" where several members of Manchester United (soccer team) were killed. This year is the 50th anniversary of that.
Personally, I hardly gave that a thought.
RIP Carl. You had the voice of an angel and the patience of a saint.

We had just flown home the week before from Guam, where we lived at the time, to our Northern California hometown, for my mom's funeral, who had died very unexpectedly. The night before we headed back to the islands, we heard the news. Even my 88-year old dad, who had just lost his wife of 53 years, was taken by it, knowing my 35-year affection, obsession, if you prefer, for the band (and having heard me talk about them, play their music, and teach myself their songs non-stop for most of those 35 years). Over the next couple of months, he would send me articles he had clipped from the newspaper about Carl or the band. Prominent on the fireplace mantle was a picture I had just sent them before Christmas of my sitting in with a local Guam rock band doing a BB set. He made sure people who he showed it to knew exactly what music we were playing at the time - the BEACH BOYS. Friends from home told me how much he talked about that band - and this was a guy who thought Tommy Dorsey got a little too lively sometimes. One of my best concert memories is seeing Carl at the Old Waldorf in SF, in a small intimate club setting, perfect for Carl's personality. Would someone PLEASE release his solo albums?

It's weird, i've only been a BB fan for two years now, and with every year that goes by i miss Carl more and more.
It just seems that he was a really great guy, who got taken from us for no reason, such a terrible thing had to happen to such an angel.
The part in 'Catch A Wave' about carl's illness had me in Tears.
R.I.P Carl

To the best of my (and scientific) knowledge, 'heaven' does not exist.
While I do not necessarily believe Carl, John, Marvin, Dennis, or Keith to be in heaven, this is an asinine statement. Since science is dependent upon obsevation by the senses and experiment, and since heaven, by definition, cannot be observed and therefore cannot be the subject of experiment, what would science have to say about heaven? Perhaps you could argue that certain claims made by certain religions could be proven to be either true or false by use of science. However, even if every observable and confirmable claim made by every religion could be proven to be false, how would this provide any information whatever about something that can neither be observed nor experimented upon?
As a point of clarification, it is not my intention to state that belief in heaven need be based solely on "blind faith" without any evidence whatever. For example, one could believe in the existence of heaven because one believes that all observable claims of a particular religion can be proven to be correct and then reasonably conclude from the accuracy of all observable claims that the non-obserable claims are likely to be true. While this method would not provide certainty it would provide far more than blind faith. In fact, many beliefs we each hold dearly are held for just such reasons - that our friends are good people, that our family loves us, that a person's testimony in court is (or is not) reliable. Past, observed performance lends credibility to current and future testimony which cannot be proven with observation.
The statement that scientific knowledge states that there is no heaven is preposterous in as much as science, by virtue of what it is, has nothing at all to say about the existence of heaven. Thank you, though, for providing this opportunity to highlight the ingrained presuppositions held by so many yet not supported by the facts.

Dear oh dear, how wafer-thin is that! LOL
Science has ‘nothing at all to say about the existence of heaven’ in the same way science has nothing to say about the existence of ‘Flying spaghetti monsters in the sky’, or ‘The clouds being god’s daisy chain’ or any other fanciful/unprovable (I could add ‘asinine’) beliefs/superstitions. By and large, it has better things to do.
