So this semester I'm taking a class called Music Performance, in which everyone taking the class performs together as a musical ensemble. Everyone in the class can bring in one song for the whole group to perform publicly at the end of the semester as sort of a final exam. So obviously, I'm going to bring in a Beach Boys song. But the question is... which one? It can't be too reliant on harmonies (there's only two or three singers) and I really want some really ridiculous song that everyone'll react to it. What do you guys suggest?

Day in the Life of a Tree...

Maybe not... I'd go for Time to Get Alone. There's some harmony but that could be taken by a brass/wind section.

TIme To Get Alone would be the best, but ridiculous perhaps Hey Little Tombow or Summer Of Love

The song that IMMEDIATELY popped into my head is "Life Is For The Living".  I think that would be a perfect choice!  It's quirky, it's funny, there are horns involved, and it may win some new fans...

Hm, I wonder if we have any brass players in the class. I can't remember. I'll list what instruments there are in the band tomorrow when I have the class again, maybe then it'll be easier to decide.

And I'll definitely have it videotaped at the end of the semester so I can post it on youtube.

Seriously, either Time To Get Alone or maybe All I Wanna Do.

not really obscure, but how about 'All Summer Long' or 'Salt Lake City' ? Just thinking these have a lot of brass and choppy percussion, which I guess may sound better in a 15-piece ?

If you want to impress your class with a great melody line I would recommend "Time To Get Alone" as well.  Then again, "I'd Love Just Once To See You" is fun and simple

"Time To Get Alone" seems like a good choice, but somehow my first thought was "Wake The WorldSmiley

Not an obscure song, but I'd suggest "Add Some Music".

Virtually any song after 1965 will still be obscure to a lot of people.  I agree that Surf's Up would be a good one, especially coming from the arrangement of the instrumental track.  The "Child" tag at the end could probably be simplified greatly to accommodate about three people.

So a few people dropped out and now it's a 12 piece, I think. It's not too diverse, though. There's a bunch of guitars, one bass, an organ, a piano, a trumpet, a drummer, a percussionist, and three vocalists. It's a good class, though. One of the other students has already chosen Be My Baby as their song to contribute, and when I told my professor I wanted to do a non-surf Beach Boys song, he said, "Cool, you mean something from Smiley Smile?"

I'm thinking maybe It's About Time, Games Two Can Play, or Summer in Paradise (UK).

It's About Time would be great!

As much as I like SIP, I dont think that's the best choice.

It's About Time...great choice! For me, it'd either be that or Heroes and Villains.
