Includes cool, calm and relaxed Brian - the Big Fella was super relaxed at the show last night and absolutly nailed the vocals on TLOS - Brian on stage is in his element .

Thanks for the link!  Brian does sound very confident and relaxed, and was in pretty good voice too.

Makes me look forward to the studio recording of TLOS even more!

He sounded the best on Good Kind of Love. I can't wait 'til he comes to the US with the Lucky Old Sun.

Clipped, sloppy and growled presentation. In general poorly sung as was the whole Oslo concert last year as discussed here.
Only a sound-check. Maybe the Sydney concert itself was better.
A pity that Brian's singing the classics live of late does not match the odd new song he as sung lately to a pretty high standard. ie Heaven.

I wouldn't lose any sleep if Brian never played Cali Girls again......he sings it like he just doesn't give a merda about that tune. Thats fine with me, I can't bear listening to that one much anymore anyways.....leave that one for the sp-called "Beach Boys".........

Well Brian has stated on several occassions California Girls is his favorite Beach Boys song. Of course, he has named many other ones at different times as well. I think this is still one he cares about.  Just seems like his voice doesn't quite fit it. This is one of the songs that I think Mike Love still "has it" on, and Al does ok with it too, just not Brian. But I disagree that he doesn't care about it

yer probably right......it just sounds like it lacks "passion" to my ears....maybe it's time to let Nelson do a lead for once.......

Yeah as someone said he always says how its his favourite tune, he said that at the 3 concerts I went to recently in Sydney and his performances of the song were a lot better than at this sound check. Saying that though, I do agree that his voice still does lack a bit of passion on the song.

On the TLOS concert I went to (on the 8th) though he was on fire on most songs. He was fantastic that night. In fact his performance of God Only Knows reminded me of that performance he gave where he is wearing glasses and he also plays I Sleep Alone back in the Landy days.

Well Brian has stated on several occassions California Girls is his favorite Beach Boys song.

I believe he usually refers to it not as his favorite song, but as his favorite recording and recording session. Perhaps having great feelings about however many hours of work back in 1965 isn't the same as getting excited for that three minutes every night during shows, more than forty years later.

SB: What song are you most tired of singing?

BW: "California Girls" gets on my nerves.

Some time after reading this I was at a BW concert and he said 'I am now going to sing my favorite song, California Girls' followed by coughs and laughter from the band. Grin

So the whole "California Girls is my favorite BBs song" thing is one of Brian's put-ons?
If he does hate the song, he's gotta be proud of the production.
