Any info on this song ,well, besides that it was written by Randy Bishop and was off a soundtrack, of course! I kinda like it...  The guitar sounds much better than anything on 85, and I like the synth parts around 2:47-2:53. Was Brian on this? I think I hear him...

Vocals recorded early 1984 at Caribou, the first session post Dennis. Reportedly all the band are correct and present.

I agree completely. Carl's voice right before the fadeout is amazing.

Who was the producer? Man, I would've loved an album full of songs that sounded like this.

who also produced Peter Noone's album "One Of The Glory Boys" for Bruce's shortlived Johnston label in 1982, but with far worse results.

Interestingly, he produced Tina Turner in 1975...

The Tina Turner LP Acid Queen was half Ike and Tina and that half was produced by Ike. That had the RnB sound I love them for, the Proffer stuf was much more pop. Kind of like a cross between the Ike and Tina and the 80's Tina Turner stuff. This was their second to last LP together

Eric...did you hear it for the first time one Christmas season?  That might explain it...happens to me all the time.  I associate songs or albums with the time of year I originally heard them, rather than when they were released or what the subject matter is.

That makes alot of sense - Pet Sounds is the only Beach Boys album that reminds me of the beach, because I used to listen to it all the time at my beach house at night, looking out the window into the ocean.

I'm not sure when I heard it first, but I think it's the bell-like sounds during the intro and the choruses.  I don't think they're really bells, but they sound like bells when I'm listening casually.

By the way, Ike Turner died yesterday. Don't know if anyone knew that.

Chasin' The Sky does absolutely nothing for me. Nothing.

Not to derail the topic but it's odd that I posted about Ike so soon before he died. Regardless of his personal life he was a brilliant musician who really helped define where Rock and Blues were going in the 50s and 60s.

I had no idea that he lived in the same town in San Diego that I do...and this is not a very big town.

DId he really? I almost got to see him in St Louis at a homecoming concert he played in September but travel plans got in the way. I remember he got a five star review in the Chicago Sun Times for playing Bluesfesrt in 2002. I didn't know he was going to be there and missed him then too. I just hope I get to see Jerry Lee Lewis in time. He's the only Sun Records guy left I think.

I absolutely love Chasin the Sky - especially the extended vocals on the fade and the great lead vocal by Carl.

My favorite Spencer Proffer production is Danny Spanos' Hot Cheri.  Randy Bishop was one of 6 writers of that song, released a year before Chasin the Sky.  From the moment I first heard Hot Cheri (you can hear it by going to Danny Spanos' My Space page) I thought it would be a great Beach Boys song, with Carl on lead vocals and a much extended fade of Beach Boys harmony vocals, (similar in length to those done on Chasin the Sky a year later).
