Another funny incident is when Howard is talking to Brian about Carnie and Wendy and they tell the story about where Landy wanted Brian to go up to people and introduce himself and he ended up introducing himself to Carnie accidentally. And then Stern goes "well at least you didn't try to feel her up, right?" And Brian goes "No, jeez!" in a really funny way.

I like the Beatles a bit more than the Boys of Beach, I think Brian's band is the tops---really amazing. And finally, I'm liberal. That's it.

That interview is Hilarious!!!  Since Howard went over to Sirius Radio I've forgotten just how good he is as an interviewer. And this interview w/Brian from 1998 was Stern at the pinnacle of his career following his movie "Private Parts" in 1997.
Brian loosens up as the interview progresses and seems much more relaxed.

"Did you go to his funeral?"
"No I didn't."
"Good."

That sums up the world's opinion of Murry. :-P

What is that movie they are talking about, where 2 guys took Brian out to the water? It's 37:05 in the interview.

It is from the "It's OK" Special from 1976.  It is also shown in The Beach Boys American Band video.  The 2 people are Dan Ackroyd & John Beloshi.

Yeah, that's the clip.

Brian's really into the interview - I know people like to say "Howard's a dick" and stuff, but when the person's really into the interview like Brian was, or Paul McCartney always is, you really see that he's not trying to be a dick at all.  It's just his sense of humor, and every now and then someone is tuned into that.

But damn, anyone wanna hit the "what's wrong with his voice" guy?  Christ.

Many thanks indeed. Howard Stern sounds quite an insensitive guy...

Wow, I never knew about this interview.  Would anybody be willing to post the Brian and / or Mike Love interview?  This sounds like something I MUST hear!

I'd also be interested in hearing one or both of the interviews. Those damn yousendit links always void themselves too soon.

Howard can always get people to open up on his show somehow. Good stuff most of the time.

I have an undated show from 02/1989 and the July 24th, 1998 show. Look for them on my blog within the next hour or 2.

EDIT: They are up now.

If Howard can interview Brian and speak to him like a regular guy why does just about every other interviewer seem to treat him like the grandfather in the home with Alzheimer's?

Tell us more about how you wrote surf songs but didn't like surfing, grandpa!

Anyone have that 1988/89 BW interview with Howard? I've been really getting into the Stern show lately and of course, I love BW. So this sounds epic.

I thought it was really sweet when Howard kinda stood up for Brian during that part.
