English National Ballet’s Artistic Director Wayne Eagling is confirmed to create new piece to Brian Wilson’s God Only Knows
English National Ballet and Brian Wilson are to collaborate and create a new piece choreographed by the Company’s Artistic Director, Wayne Eagling, to the classic song God Only Knows. English National Ballet is delighted that Mr Wilson is enthusiastic about working with Wayne and the dancers. Brian Wilson is one of America's most celebrated talents with a career spanning over four decades. He is soon to receive the USA's highest honor in the arts, the Kennedy Centre Award, an award previously given to artists including Tony Bennett and Elton John.
Wayne Eagling commented,
“I am very much looking forward to working with Brian Wilson - one of my music idols. This is a great opportunity for our dancers and a brilliant way to show the power of ballet in its many forms. I can promise a pas de deux or two but absolutely no tutus!”
The collaboration was due to take place on 11 November at an English National Ballet fundraising event; however this event has been unavoidably cancelled due to a number of key partnerships not being confirmed in time to ensure the event’s success.
Whilst Mr Wilson is disappointed not to have the opportunity to perform with English National Ballet on this occasion, the artistic partnership already established has enabled both the Company and Mr Wilson to plan this future collaboration.
A spokesman for Brian Wilson today said;
“Mr. Wilson is very excited about the future collaboration with the English National Ballet.”
English National Ballet is committed to keeping ballet alive by keeping the cornerstones of the classical repertoire vibrantly alive, and by commissioning and acquiring new pieces. The Company is always keen to develop new audiences, maintaining an enthusiastic and dedicated following for our work.
