And then theres the story Blondie relates in the (fantastic) BBC docu on Dennis, he (Blondie) was playing at the Roxy when same guy grabs him by the ankles. Blondie starts to kick him off, not knowing who it is and then he hears "It's me!" and is mortified by the reaction. One of the more chilling parts of the docu.

Love that photo of Carl wearing two pairs of shades at once -- it really captures his sense of humor!

This was taken in September 1983 at Gage's Birthday Party I think. Dennis looks about the same as he did in the pic above. I found this while browsing for images of Dennis Circa 1983

denny.jpg 58.49 KB, 783x510

Curious where this photo was found.  I snapped that one in Trancas Canyon, just before we took the boys boogie boarding.  And yes, it was taken at Gage's first birthday party.

Something about that doesn't look right...

I'm looking at the photo for 10 minutes. What don't look right? Just curious.

He looks too good in that photo for it to be '83.  My guess would be '81.

Sorry, thought you were talking about the most recently posted photo in this thread...from the remarks about the beard looking blurry, I surmise you actually are referring to the one with Mike playing the saxophone and Bruce holding a mic to it?  Yes, I gotta say that one looks like Dennis has been photo-shopped.

Just found a bigger version and some others from that show:

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Wasn't the Seattle show just a few days later? He's totally clean shaven in that. It's strange how shaving made him look totally different.  Grin

edit (crop) away the two backing musicians and you are looking at one hell of a portrait picture of Carl. very haunting. It is perfect, and a very good picture to remember him by.

except that he is suffering from the physical effects of the cancer treatment, but it is a testament of how he continued to fight on and tour during his final months

That is a great picture, very sad at the same time though.

Is that Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul & Mary to Carl's left (our right)?  LOL

Given the talk about Shawn and Mike and Dennis, I thought I'd share this photo. It was from mid 1988 in San Diego.

Is one of the kids Gage?

I took the photo. Gage is in the white cap. That is Shawn in the red top. That is the tunnel that leads out onto the field. They eventually rolled several classic cars down the ramp, and each Beach Boys boarded a car. They then paraded around the field, and up to the stage.

This image was taken at the Concord Pavilion on August 2, 1997.  From what I remember Carl sat on a stool for the entire show and stood only when he took his lead on God Only Knows.  After that song Mike made a comment about Carl having cancer and not feeling well.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Why? Are only certain people allowed to like the Beach Boys? Or the Beach Boys only allowed to play for certain people?

Probably said it before but there's something oddly fascinating about all the images from 1983 and I don't mean in a morbid way first and foremost. Bit hard to explain I guess...
