Brian on Jimmy Kimmel show
«

December 25, 2005, 10:02:05 AM »
Hello everyone,
For those who missed Brian's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Friday night (or for those who would like to see it again), I've recorded Friday night's show and saved Brian's appearance in 3 separate files.
This file is his interview:
http://s6.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2DIVGNH5978V91HEQ64MPREEVO
This file is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
http://s21.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3SFM3MP481GZC2N7XDK6PJ0HQ2
And closing the show was "Little Saint Nick"
http://s27.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1B02KI21O53NO2VU70694AP6FX
These files will be available for the next 7 days.
Merry Christmas!
Laurie

Man an even better performance of "GRYMG" by Brian and the gang. One of Paul's best solos, man I love it. Also loved how he added a few notes when Brian started singing after his solo.

Here it is. I don't think I've made mistakes, but forgive them if you find them... And it's long. Sorry about that, too.
.....
JK: He’s the reason California is California, one of the founding members of the Beach Boys, who last year released his mysterious and legendary unfinished masterpiece, Smile. His new album, which I have right here, is called What I Really Want For Christmas. Please welcome one of the all-time great American artists, Brian Wilson.
[Kimmel introduces Brian Wilson to Ryan Seacrest.]
JK: Brian, Ryan; Ryan Brian.
BW: How are ya?
JK: Thank you for coming, it’s a real honor to have you here.
BW: You’re very welcome. You’re very welcome.
JK: And Merry Christmas to you as well.
BW: Thank you.
JK: I got you a present. It’s a, uh, it’s dog-tags. [Takes out small box with dog tags. Both men and audience laugh.]
BW: Oh, thank you, Jimmy! Thank you so much, Jimmy, I appreciate it! I appreciate it a lot…appreciate it. [Sets them down.]
JK: I’ll get you those after the show.
BW: Yeah.
JK: I know you don’t love doing interviews, so let’s just pretend we’re, like, trapped in an elevator together, the three of us. Congratulations on the Grammy nomination.
BW: I was nominated, yeah I was.
JK: [Picks up Beautiful Dreamer DVD] This is a fantastic – if you have not seen this, it’s a documentary and music documentary live performance for Smile, this album that, you made most of it – what, like 90% of the album?
BW: Yeah, about 90%, yeah.
JK: …90% of the album, and then you sat it on the shelf for how long?
BW: 38 years, actually, yeah.
JK: 38 years—that’s procrastinating.
BW: Right, that is. But we finally finished it last year.
JK: You finally finished it. And what made you decide to finally finish it?
BW: Um, I just decided it was time for people to hear it. I decided that, yeah.
JK: And boy, when you did, you went to London, and you did a live performance, and Paul McCartney, for instance, was in the audience …
BW: He got moved to tears, actually.
JK: People say he was actually crying.
BW: He was. He was crying, yeah.
JK: People say this album, a lot of critics say it is, it might be, the best album of all time.
BW: Well, it might be. I don’t know-ha ha ha! I don’t really know.
JK: Them just saying that it might be is a pretty good thing, just to start with.
BW: Right. Yeah.
JK: At one time, in the early ‘60s, you guys—the Beach Boys—and the Beatles were very, kind of, competitive.
BW: Right. Rubber Soul got me Pet Sounds and Pet Sounds got them Sgt. Pepper.
JK: It’s like you guys had some kind of arms race.
BW: Yeah, right, exactly. A mutual admiration society is what it was, yeah.
JK: And you’ve become friendly with Paul McCartney since then?
BW: Yeah, actually we have. We talk to each other on the phone every now and then, yeah.
JK: That’s an interesting thing, because you hear about artists influencing each other, but usually one artist is much older than the other artist—
BW: No, we’re about two days apart, birth, about two days apart.
JK: Yeah, and … yeah. Well that is something else. Have you guys talked about doing something, like a whole album together? I know you’ve done one song—
BW: No. He did a song for me on my Gettin’ In Over My Head album, called “A Friend Like You,” but he’s not going to work with me anymore.
JK: He’s not?
BW: No.
JK: [Laughs] Why?
BW: He’s just not going to.
JK: He’s not gonna, huh?
BW: No.
JK: Well, you never know, right? Well… [laughing], so you guys, ah, um, you’re not working together, we’ve established that.
BW: Right.
JK: That’s not gonna happen. But you, are you working…you have this Christmas album here. And this is something that, I guess, how long ago did the Beach Boys release their Christmas album?
BW: 1964, actually about 21 years ago—41 years ago.
JK: 41 years ago…
BW: Yeah, we finally did our Christmas album. Eight traditional Christmas carols, two Beach Boys songs, and a Brian Wilson song with lyrics by Bernie Taupin and a Brian Wilson song with lyrics by Jimmy Webb.
JK: That’s great, yeah. Yeah, that’s a pretty good list right there. Again, the album is called What I Really Want For Christmas. And it turns out, it’s not a puppet and it’s not dog tags, either. Your kids, you have three kids, right?
BW: Yeah, well, I have Dylan, Delanie and Daria, and then Carnie and Wendy from a previous marriage.
JK: Yeah, right, you have three little, little kids and …
BW: Three little kids and two 35-year-olds.
JK: Are the little kids, I know your older daughters are musical, are the little ones musical, too?
BW: A little bit. They’re not really yet musical, but they’re getting there. They’re slowly getting there.
JK: Do you get them lessons or do you teach them?
BW: No, they just listen to me play the piano and they dance around.
JK: Oh really? What’s their favorite of your songs?
BW: Barbara Ann.
JK: Oh really? ‘cause they can get up and dance on that.
BW: Yeah, yeah.
JK: You must love California.
BW: Awww, California girls!
[Audience cheers.]
JK: Well, we’re going to hear some music from the Christmas album. Again, thank you for being here, it was a real thrill to have you. And we’re going to hear Brian Wilson when we come back. What song are you going to do when we come back?
BW: “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.”
JK: “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” Brian Wilson, when we return. We’ll be right back. Ryan Seacrest is here, too…
[Fade to commercial.]

It looks like the only file not 'blocked' right now is Little Saint Nick.
Do you guys know of another place I can upload the files for sharing, besides YouSendIt?

Laurie, try mytempdir.com for hosting your files. I think it will handle ones that large, and it also doesn't have the 25 download limits of yousendit. Thank you for posting these.

I was away at the in-laws and missed this appearance. I didn't know about it at all! This is like the 3rd recent TV appearance I have missed (Charlie Rose & Today Show).
I'm getting sloppy.

I'm not quite sure what's going through your head as you post this strange request, but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and do my best to be helpful.
Belles of Paris was on the MIU album, it is available for purchase on itunes for 99 cents, although its probably worth having the whole record, which can be found in a twofer with LA Light Album (which is essential in my opinion) both on itunes and in a surprising number of the world's remaining record stores.
Lay Down Burden was on the Imagination album, and is also available for purchase in itunes, but is also an album absolutely worth owning.
However, if you just want to hear any released beach boys song legally without purchasing it, I recommend the Beach Boys own Myspace page.
http://www.myspace.com/thebeachboys
Scroll down to album, click "see all 69," and listen away.
I haven't the slightest idea why the Beach Boys posted their entire catalog free on myspace, but they did, so you're in luck!
