It's well known that the BBs were very popular in Salt Lake City and of course they wrote a song about the city, but I was surprised to find out how many times they appeared there.  Keith Badman's book lists five apps between 1963 and 1974.  In fact, he was just scratching the surface.  The BBs were in the Salt Lake area 12 times from 1963 to 1974.   They first appeared there on Sept 7 1963 at the legendary Lagoon in Farmington (right outside Salt Lake).  Dave Marks was still in the band at this time.  The group was so popular that they were quickly booked into The Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City.  They appeared there on Dec 27 and 28 1963. By this time Al had replaced Dave. This was right after the BBs first attempt at making a concert album in Sacramento.   This was the only app by the BBs at The Terrace Ballroom.  Every other 1960s app was at The Lagoon.  The group played the Lagoon on June 12 and 13 1964, shortly before making their Christmas album.  They played in Salt Lake three times in 1964.  They returned for one night during the Summer Safari tour (July 29 1964) and than were back again for two night in September- September 11 and 12 1964.  I have all the ads for all these apps-unfortunately Salt Lake papers didn't review the shows-rock wasn't taken seriously there til the 70s.  The group was in Salt Lake again on May 29 1965 with new member Bruce Johnston.   This is the first Salt Lake app without Brian (if he played Sept 7 1963).   The group made an annual practice of playing there in September- they were back again on Sept 10 and 11 1965.  This was in the middle of the sessions for the Party album.   The group returned again to Salt Lake in Sept 1966 as Good Vibrations was being completed and Smile begun. They were there on Sept 9 and 10 1966.   The group did not play there in 1967 as far as I can tell, but they were back in Sept 1968 (I hope to obtain exact dates soon).  In Sept 1969 the group again was at The Lagoon- this time with Paul Revere and the Raiders. Sept 5 and 6 1969.  In 1970-after completing Sunflower- the group made their last app at The Lagoon on Sept 12 1970. The end of an era.  The group was not again in Salt Lake til Dec 1974.  On Dec 6 1974 the group appeared at The University of Utah- probably for many fans who had grown up with them.   All this info is now posted (or soon will be) at AGD's gigs/sessions area of his site.  I continue to find new shows, info so keep looking there (if this kind of arcane stuff interests you)

Very intersting. Lagoon has a plaque which commemorates every act who played their and remember reading the Beach Boys on there. Salt Lake loved the Beach Boys. I can't think of one of my friends parents who made their kids HATE Barbara Ann... I was lucky and had parents that were into Bach and folk music, so I escaped that cruel fate.  LOL

The completist in me obliges me to mention that the 1968 Lagoon app was Sept 7 with the Box Tops. As it turns out they played there earlier in that year as well (probably June)- so the 1970 Lagoon app was their 11th in that venue and there 12th app in Utah.
