I'm currently experimenting with de-mixing technology to make a upmixed version of SMiLE, the results are interesting, albeit, experimental. (Don't worry, the videos are just 15 sec long, I don't think there's a problem on uploading snippets)

For example, this Barnyard one, which has the drums, organ and animal noises centered, instruments left and backing vocals right.
