The live "Marcella" from The Beach Boys In Concert is the group's best harder rocking performance IMO. They almost sound like the Stones.

How come their hardest-rocking number ever, "Dance, Dance, Dance" isn't mentioned once in this thread? That one lays "Marcella" amongst the daisies!

The Denny rockers alone (along with Student Demonstration Time) rock a lot harder than Dance, Dance, Dance!

Just watch the TAMI show and see a great garage early punk band in action then if you like.....watch the 50 year concert DVD to hear the songs played at half that pace.

I think this thread is forgetting all of the earlier albums.

Want to hear the boys rock out? How about stuff like this..

Shut Down
The Shift
Surf Jam
Stoked
The Rocking Surfer
Surfin USA
Do you wanna dance
Little Honda
I Get Around
Custom Machine

Etc etc etc..

OK, so it is not a Beach Boys song and I wouldn't call it rock TRACK, but does Brian Wilson ever deliver a heavier rock VOCAL than on Someone To Love?  Specifically the "I'll make all my money to spend on you honey, Yeah- Please Give me a clue..."?  I don't think so.  Not my fave era of Brian vocals, but he just goes for it there doesn't he?  I like the commitment there.  Can anyone mention a harder rocking Brian vocal?

“I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times”

An absolutely beautiful expression of isolation and not being able to relate to your surroundings.

No one can touch this song. Is it even rock? what genre is this song?

This song is an impossible composition. I hate to rate modern musicians on par with the classical as the musical environment and education of that earlier period differs so much from that of popular musicians, but damn if that song is not as moving or intricate yet direct as anything composed by the very most respected and renowned musicians of all time.

It seems the description "rock" is proving troublesome! That said, I agree with the poster who forwarded "Dance, Dance, Dance" as a likely candidate. My third favourite BB track. Surely a song has to be uplifting spiritually as well as physically to really "rock hard"? I'd say "DDD" fits the bill very nicely.

Slightly OT, but Do You Wanna Dance was a solid rocker, how come it wasn't played more live?
