Brian doesn't know what his own work is about?!

Umm...

I'm sure it's not the first time. Do you really think he knew what VDP's Smile lyrics were about?

Can you honestly say that Brian didn't feel the meaning of the words with every fiber of his being when he recorded SMiLE? I think there are as many meanings as people who listen to it and the interpretations are all as different as you can imagine. I have no doubt Brian had an idea of what he wanted the lyrics to mean. At least thats what I hear in the music he wrote and the performance he recorded (in 66-67).

I would imagine that VDP is providing the structure (conceptual storyline) and if Brian is happy composing a whole pile of bits and pieces to hang on that structure.. then great!

From what I've read and other sources, I doubt very much if this is what's happening. Was VDP mentioned from the get-go ? Nope. My impression is Van Dyke providing lyrics to existing music.

In an interview yesterday in Vienna he was very excited about the new music ("very good material") and in good spirits, even sang a bit of Dennis' "You and I" for the reporter.

They have been heard rehearsing at least one song originally recorded by a very famous band, but also recorded by the Beach Boys. And this year is the xxth anniversary of the album that originally contained that song.  Clear no?   Cheesy

Anyhow, I dunno why but I'm thinking about POB anniversary..
