Polyphonic Spree's new album
«

I got this album today.
I have never been a big P. Spree fan, thinking they take a decent melody and stick with it far, far too long, just building and building on it. It's too repetitive and lacks any subtlety.
But this album, produced by the EXCELLENT producer John Congleton (check out his band, Paper Chase, if you can stand the nightmares they're sure to cause), really takes care of that problem. There is a lot more texture and are very creative arrangements. It is like a crisper Bob Ezrin doing Flaming Lips or something.

Any comparison to my other favorite band (The FLips) has me curious. Now I will go check it out!
Thanks.

Interesting. I may need to check this out. I have the same problem with them as you do Luther. Their stuff just gets tiresome and becomes a very tedious listen. I had a lot of faith in this band when I first heard them, bought the albums and then was very dissapointed. Thanks for the heads up.

I obtained a copy of this last night and Luther is right on the money. This is a very nice record! I always thought this band could do good things if they would just focus on making good tight arrangements and not over-due it and run things into the ground. Pick this one up for sure.

I've got to say again, John Congleton's productions do it. Anyone who has listened to his own albums with The Paper Chase can identify--even down to specific sounds and parts--what he is likely to have contributed. Great work by him and the band.

The Polyphonic Spree is the best live band I ever saw, and I LOVE their song "Hold Me Now". But their first two albums were a bit dissapointing to me. Looking forward to hearing the new one.
