Well worth the night off of work!  The Moon did a few songs (their very first live performance!), and then Dave Marks stayed on stage and performed two sets with many familiar faces, including Jeff Foskett, Billy Hinsche, Nik Wonder, Nelson Bragg, Mike Meros, Eddie Bertrand, Paul Johnson, Gary Griffin, The Honeys (all three of them!), Gerry Beckley, Dennis Diken, Steve Kalinich (who was really having a lot of fun!), Probyn Gregory, and Bill Trenkle.  I am probably missing a few others.  The first set featured many early BB songs, and was great.  About 200 people really rocking out in the audience and having a great time.  Many people went home after the first set, but they really missed out.  The remaining crowd of about 60 (later about 40) was treated to a second set that really rocked, and featured some extra-long "jam session" versions of some classic instrumentals.

I don't have a complete setlist written down yet, but highlights from the first set included: 409, Surfin Safari, Farmers Daughter, Bamboo Shack, Surfin USA, Be True To Your School, Cruisin, and several other tracks.  The second set included: Stoked, Green Onions, Mr. Moto, What I'd Say, Shut Down, and many other instrumentals that I didn't know, but were great.

In addition to everyone mentioned above, some familiar faces in the audience: Alan Boyd, Jon Stebbins (of course!), Charlotte Cooper, Dan Rutherford, and countless fans who frequent the message boards here...

Hi Eric,
Glad you had fun. One major highlight late in the night was an insanely menacing marathon version of Green Onions with David and Paul Johnson having an otherworldly and wicked battle on guitars and Mike Meros cruising along with them on keys. Dennis Diken, Nelson Bragg  and Bill Trenkle held  down the rhythm section for all they were worth. I'm tellin ya...The roof almost came loose on Rusty's it was so loud and it just kept going and going.  It was truly a great great moment. A classic.

Eric, i wish i'd known you were there - i would have loved to say hi!

I was outside chatting when they started playing Green Onions and my jaw hit the floor.  It was, indeed, a smokin' version.  But the whole night was just...right.  It was just right.  I'm sorry more people weren't there to experience it.

Susan,

Was that you playing the maracas during the second set?  I had a hunch it was you; I know for sure that I have seen you (if that was you) many times at other events in LA.  If that was indeed you, I'll remember to say hi next time.  I was in the front row for the first set, and then standing front and left against the wall for the second set.

Good vibes,
Eric

Eric, that was indeed me.  I saw your name on Carrie's list, and looked around for you, but never saw you.  I'll be in San Diego in early December for a convention [Social Studies, not Beach Boys] - let's see if we can't hook up then!

Cool!  I may be in Hawaii the first ten days of December like I was last year, but nothing is confirmed yet.
