I got a chill straight up my arms when rockstar Charlie punched in the chorus of GV - note for note - as the secret code that breaks down the "other's" jamming device that will set his comrades free (or so he thinks). And then he sealed his own fate, so to speak (and then surrendered to the deep...visions of DW came to mind...). Something similar happened when Cameron Crowe used Good Vibrations in Vanilla Sky at a key moment of revelation in that 'waking dream' narrative - it shouldn't have worked there, but it did. Great choice in both cases (BTW, there's a nice little feature in this month's UNCUT on the song with quotes from everybody). Vibrations, of course, play a key part in this utterly compelling (and moving) TV series.

Did anybody else catch it?

Yeah, that was cool.  I was hoping they would end the episode with the song.  I think it would've been effective.

I was thinking, "Which melody does he need to use:  verse, chorus, bridge, second bridge, etc.".  It ended up being the "Gotta keep those lovin' good / vibrations a-happenin' with her" melody.  If I'd scripted the show, he woulda had to try a couple different ones before he got the right one!  Smiley

LOL I was thinking the same thing! I was thinking 'What Melody do you need to use? Ahhh!!! You're not gonna make it Charlie!"

Great show.

But why did the formerly airtight chamber he was in fill to a level ABOVE the broken porthole?

Should have been an air pocket above the level of the porthole in which he could have hummed the "AIR" theme from the Elemental Suite then swum out the hole.   Grin

I was thinking that too.  Then they copped out and had him punch in the code as if he was a proficient keypad player and pretended that there was only one melody to work with... not that I think the Lost writers need to spend more time on "Good Vibrations" then the episode's plot...
