This is probably the song that has been tossed around the most in a live setting.  Who do you think did / does the best job?

Here are some YouTube clips of live performances of "Good Timin":

http://youtube.com/watch?v=gxJ1kuMqOAs (Carl, 1980)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=yRFRfdDbdZg (Brian, 2004)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=O-F1IhCXk6Q (John Stamos, 2006 - posted by me!)

There used to be a version from last year of Chris Farmer singing the lead on the Don Imus show...looks like it was taken down.

::edit::

OK I reuploaded the Chris Farmer version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLVabZLZQCY (Chris Farmer, 2006)

If anyone has the Mike Love version from the Easter Seals Telethon, I'm sure everyone would appreciate it if you posted it!  I have it, but not on my computer, and I don't have the software to convert it.  As far as I know, the version with Dennis does not exist on video (I may be wrong).

I liked Carl's the best, although I enjoyed Brian's too.  Stamos should be banned from singing any Beach Boys songs ever again.

I voted for Carl.

I agree. I HATE his version of Forever. Not that hes that bad of a singer but its the way he sings it, comes across as so fake.

Two people have voted for Dennis. This may sound like an odd question, but have you HEARD the version with Dennis singing the lead? If so, where or how?

I'm not going to vote until I hear Mike's version, though I doubt it'll be my favorite.

Carl did the best, always. I too like his versions of 82 where he sings it with passion. But the best Good Timin' version is from 1980 where Brian jumps in at the end. But Dennis did too a nice job, I don't like Christians version but Chris Farmer sung it very good! Can't stand Brian's one. I want to see the Mike version, Jasper?

I've heard Dennis's version--the one where he says that Carl normally sings it, but he chickened out.

Where and when did he perform it?  And why?  How come Carl didn't do it?

I voted Dennis because I felt that his vocals suited the song perfectly. Carl comes in second. But I've always been fond of Dennis singing it.  Grin

Dennis (Carl's substitute when he "chickened out")
Correct me if I'm wrong - didn't Carl chicken out singing "Angel Come Home"? That is, it's written around the time he had drug issues & his marriage was going under the danger of falling? "Good Timin' doesn't reflect it in lyrics, rather a we're-still-together-after-all-these-years" kind of thing, about the band.

Needs to hear Christian & John on this. And I don't remember Mike's version.
No, it was Good Timin'.

Being familiar with both versions, gotta go with the Dennis version, hands down!

(And NO, it's not because he's my favourite Beach Boy!)

No, it was Good Timin'.
You were right, just found this quote of Mr. Stebbins by advanced searching "angel chicken":

I don't think you saw it, but you did hear it on a bootleg. Its audio of the BB's at Radio City Music Hall in '79 when Dennis, for an unknown reason sang lead on "Good Timin'"...he says "because Carl chickened out." If you can produce video of that show or any of Dennis singing that song I'll be happy to be proved wrong...but I doubt that's gonna happen. The only known video of Dennis singing lead from that year would be  his performance of "Angel Come Home" on the Midnight Special TV show.

That exact performance is on Youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up163cMB9rs

At the end of the song, Dennis says "Carl was gonna sing this, but he chickened out".

On our way through this "backstage" maze, Bruce joined up with the group and said hello, singing "It Never Rains in Southern California" and joking with some of the older ladies. I'm not sure if they knew he was a Beach Boy or simply an enthusiastic elderly gay gentleman.
