Just got the new issue yesterday.  The feature is a joint interview with Brian and Al as they rehearsed for the UCLA gig.  Some interesting comments from Al about the groups initial reaction to the Pet Sounds material, as well as the frustration of having to - in effect -  relearn how to sing harmony to tackle those vocal parts.  He also discusses his reaction to Capitol releasing the "Best of" album shortly after Pet Sounds.  Brian describes his reasons for hiring Tony Asher, and his insistance on keeping "Good Vibrations" off of the album.

Have a look if you can!

Also, there is a Beach Boys 14 (?) track tribute CD with it featuring covers by the Who, The Langley Schools Music Project and Nelson Bragg's band. There are also original Pet Sounds-esq tracks by other artists.

A worth while purchase for those who haven't seen it!  Grin

Oh yeah, the CD!  And (this may have been covered in the past) if you dig that Langley Schools Music Project version of "In My Room", definitely check out the "Innocence and Despair" album.  They do 5 or so other Beach Boys songs on it, and it's pretty moving stuff.  It popped up on my stereo during Thanksgiving dinner this year!  Surreal experience, particularly after a few glasses of wine (and grandma humming along to the music).

I like the bit at the end of the interview where Brian mentions that he felt that Summer Days (and Nights) and Love You were underrated albums. Al adds that Love You was especially underrated. As the interviewer leaves the room he overhears Al say to Brian that they should fit Honking Down The Highway into the show. Yes!

The Mojo CD is pretty good overall; the track listing and artists are: -

1. Barbara Ann - The Who
2. Hang On To Your Ego - The Beach Boys
3. It's A Sad World- Curt Boettcher
4. Leaf and Lime - High Llamas
5. Would It Be Impossible  -Superimposers
6. The Lonely Sea - Steve Almaas & Ali Smith
7. Like a Summer Rain-  Jan & Dean
8. Wake the World - Epicycle
9. H.E.L.P. Is On The Way - Doleful Lions
10. Submarine Dream - Apples In Stereo
11. God Only Knows  - The Mockers
12. All the World Is Waiting  - Elf Power
13. I Can Hear Music - Mark Wirtz & Chorus
14. In My Room - The Langley Schools Project
15. His Last Summer - The Barracudas

Not all songs are BB covers (a few are BW like) and not all the covers work but it's a good listen.
 Cool

So "Hang On To Your Ego" is the so-called "Rare Beach Boys Track"?  Undecided

For a lot of people it's probably a rare track...

Anyway, for me the killer track on this cd is The Lonely Sea by Steve Almaas & Ali Smith. Worth buying both magazine and cd for that one alone. Keep playing that song over and over again...

Rule of thumb, think BEFORE you post. And THINK how it may affect someone else's feelings.

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

I agree.

And I love the cover of GOK as well. It sounds very natural as a modern rock song and they didn't even change it that drastically.

Not having any Jan and Dean material, I thought "yellow balloon" was just a line in "Like A Summer Rain". Oh well, that explains everything.

In which case, which tune is better suited to the "In My Room" CD,  "Yellow Balloon" or "Like A Summer Rain"Huh
