Those records were not more advanced than the Beach Boys.

Now, I'm a Finn disciple... but while the BB's ARE above the Beatles to me, I can't agree with that statement... Pre Rubber Soul I think the only albums that stand up to the Beatles LPs are Surfin' USA, Little Deuce Coupe, All Summer Long and Today (Not sure where Summer Days fits in)...  Now that is alot, but there still is some  dreck on all the albums I mentioned...

I suppose the difference is the fabs SOUND like they put alot of effort into their filler, while the BB's it's so damn obvious it's frustrating...

It's still filler nonetheless, and the best stuff does not come up to the best of the BB's. I'll take Surf Jam over A Taste Of Honey any day.

Mmm, and I'd take "Bombora" over "Surf Jam"...

Of course you're right Ian, the highs ain't AS high as BB's, but they're more consistent LP's...

But not as exciting, perhaps for that very reason.

Oh yes, the excitement I get when my hand hovers over the 'skip' button can't be beat Wink

Heh, I don't actually skip any tracks on BB's albums, I like to treat them as a whole... even if the band didn't at the time.
