I'm curious how often the ukelale has been used in popular music, besides Tiny Tim. Also this was apparently George Harrison's favorite instrument. Let's show some love for this underdog instrument.

You can play anything on a Uke, if you have the right feel. I 've played "Stairway to heaven" and "Freebird" on a ukelele to the delight of my friends. It's all in the arrangement.

We use the ukelele often in our performaces. It adds a sound and texture that you just can't get anywhere else!

Yeah I agree, I performed will a band last fall and they had a ukelele and brings so much to a group. Heck of a band too I might add, I played tenor sax with them.

Did you hear Macca's Ukulele-version of "Something"? That's awesome. It's a great (well, great sounding) instrument !

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Paul's rendition of Something was great, it's a fitting tribute to his old friend George who loved the uke, I loved Harrison playing Dharadun on it in The Beatles Anthology.

Lyle Ritz who played bass on Pet Sounds, etc. and uke on Little Pad and Diamond Head, cut a great jazz uke album back in the day called 'What About Uke'... a little heavy on the jazz flute, but still quite an achievement.
I've been playing dobro with mega-talented multi-instrumentalist Rebecca Zapen from Jacksonville, FL. She has written some great tunes on her ukelele...
Go to her CD Baby site and check out "Smile"!!! (also "I've Been Dreaming" and "Woe is We")
http://cdbaby.com/cd/zapen2
(actually, check out the whole album. then buy it. It's just SO GOOD.)
you can also check her out at
