Cool topic.
For me it's Rock And Roll Creation, for the beautifully harmonised bridge ("I look to the stars and the answer is clear..."), followed by that amazing Entwistle-like bass solo. Pure rock.

Yep, they sure did. Great voices. You can hear their harmonising to great effect in A Mighty Wind, as well.

I'm partial to the mega-redundant "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" but am most often beholden to "Stonehenge," which makes me laugh just thinking about it. (Yes, world: I *laugh*.)
"Break Like the Wind" was kind of a letdown, though.

Lick My Love Pump. I sort of stumbled on how to play it tonight on guitar at band practice, and I just sort of played it over and over again giggling for the rest of the night.

Beautiful tune though, ain't it?
Damn you Ian, I didn't think anyone would mention "Rock and Roll Creation" before me... The album version is a bit dissapointing after the raucous live-pod version, rythm guitar ain't loud enough.
Kudos t'you! Kudos!

Break Like The Wind
a letdown? Excuse me? Clam Caravan? With the world's most hilariously bad guitar solo(s)?
Nah. I crack up all the way through both albums.
Totally great and totally funny at the same time; a neat trick. And I still find the movie's finale - with Nigel rejoining the band on-stage at a nod from David St Hubbins - strangely moving.
This guy:
http://www.brutallo.com/index.html
- used to have a mouthwatering 4DVD set of the movie -
everything
they shot for it, including lots of scenes that never made it to the extended editions (I have a nice French set, housed in a miniature Marshall stack; the movie/extras, plus both albums).
Question: anybody know about the CD-ROM set? I seem to remember this was briefly available, and it included scenes not in the extended versions (the girl group that gave them all lip herpes, for one) plus screenplay, etc. Anyone see this?

Majesty of Rock has to get special mention, as does Cash on Delivery, but I think my favourite Spinal Tap number is Big Bottom if only for Nigel Tuffnel's bum shaking in the film. Heavy Duty is also very good.

When I saw Harry Shearer last month, he (on bass) & his wife (amazing jazz pianist/vocalist) performed Christmas With The Devil ! An instant stone classic Christmas tune! Majesty Of Rock always cracks me up!
Ladies & Gents- Derek Smalls on bass- sans make-up. He even signed the X-mas 45- Derek Smalls! FUNNY!

It would defenitley have to be Stonehenge. I like some Prog rock stuff but Stonehenge was a brilliant and accurate parody of that kind of music.
I also like Lick My Love Pump alot, it reminds me alot of Pete Townshend's piano work and Sex Farm Woman a great piss take on hard rock.

"Majesty of Rock" -- Jesus, that's on "Break Like the Wind," innit? Maybe I need to go back and listen to that one again. I haven't heard it much since -- OK, not since it came out have I heard it, and that was, like, 10-somethin' (?) years ago at least. But "Majesty of Rock" -- that's stupid genius! (Is that the one that's got the lines, "It's all around us and it's everywhere / and it's deeper than royal blue"? For some crazy reason, those lines cycle idly through my head at least once a week ... Don't ask me to explain ... )
Christ, I never realized how many great songs Tap had! They're better'n' KISS!

If you guys like Spinal Tap you gotta check out GWAR. Same idea, only with heavier music. The lyrics are considerably dirtier.

This is all you need to know about GWAR:
Well, that and that they shower their audiences with artificial blood and semen at every show......

"Break Like the Wind", the song, is a stone cold classic... Woah... my first exposure to them was on the Simpsons... The film was slightly dissapointing after that Simpsons episode (I was expecting a more in your face type humour like Simpsons)... God that was funny... "This is meant to be a rock concert... not the bleedin'... Splish, Splash Show!"

The man is a god. Notice he's using the rare "half-doubleneck" bass he pioneered with the Tap.
(Uh, this refers to Derek Smalls, in the Monkee Knutz post)

I would have to go with "Sex Farm" for it's poetic lyrics like, "Plowin' through your bean field, takin' out my pitchfork, pokin' your hay."
