Memorial Day weekend is coming up, so let's get the Summer season going with a new video. It's for an early favorite of mine 'The Girl From New York City' from 1965's 'Summer Days (and Summer Nights!!)'.
I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it.

As always, wonderful pop art choices, balanced perfectly between Roy Lichtenstein and the gals in the Archie comics! We're having a bunch of "June gloom in May" here in SoCal right now--with luck the birth of this video will sweep all of that away and get summer underway! 3D

Yes!  3D
I always loved that song and actually wouldn't have had a problem had the Beach Boys done a couple of more songs in this R'n'B-flavored sound around this time. Mike's lead is wonderful and I believe this may be the first time a Bruce falsetto was featured on a Beach Boys recording.
It's interesting that the album (Summer Days and Summer Nights) starts with two 'answer'-songs (this one and "Amusement Parks U. S. A."). I wonder if that was just a coincidence or if Brian had something else in mind with that.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
