Have you heard the news...?

A brand new documentary film about Jerry Lee Lewis, titled Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble In Mind, will premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Not much is known about the film, except that it’s directed by Ethan Coen, one half of Hollywood’s iconic Coen Brothers filmmaking team. The documentary will screen as part of the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from Tuesday 17 May to Saturday 28 May.

Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble In Mind is the first film Coen has directed without his brother Joel (Joel Coen made his solo directorial debut last year with The Tragedy of Macbeth).

The last time Jerry Lee Lewis’ story was told on the big screen was in the 1989 biopic Great Balls Of Fire! starring Dennis Quaid as the Killer and Winona Ryder as Myra Gale Brown.

Other music films screening as part of this year’s Cannes Film Festival include Brett Morgen’s David Bowie biopic Moonage Daydream and Baz Luhrmann’s new Elvis biopic.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind review – Ethan Coen’s amazing tribute to the Killer

The Coen brother goes solo to put together a documentary about the shamanic wild man of early rock’n’roll, who reinvented himself as a country and gospel act

In his first solo feature, the director uses almost nothing but old performance and TV-interview clips but combines them artfully, syncing them to his own pleasure centers — and ours.
