Shangri-la Studios, in Malibu, near Zuma Beach. Previously owned by The Band, I believe (you can see some footage of those guys at that studio in The Last Waltz). Portions of L.A. (Light Album) were recorded there, although the studio is not name-checked in the inner sleeve credits. Glad to see it's still operating.

It's funny how politically conservative Bruce, of all members, appears to be the one BB who stays up-to-date with current pop music.

P.S. It's a nice song!

I've listened to the song a couple of times and I just don't hear the background vocals. I wonder if I'm listening to the wrong song! LOL

Have you listened all the way through to the end?

Any specific tracks from LA (Light Album) that we can pinpoint to being cut at Shangri-La?

The song is "Here We Go ... Again", and the background vocals aren't exactly buried, although its the Bruce Johnston signature keyboard sound that really gives him away as co-producer!

The dx-7 keyboard special! Grin But seriously good for Bruce to continue being a contributor to popular music.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

What a guy, Bruce. 20 years ago he was talking about writing something a la Lou Bega's Mambo No.5... this latest developement kind of gives you faith in the human race. Listened and liked latest Weeknd  album without knowing of BJ's involvement...
Also nice of him to say that Brian "still has it"

Backing vocals on "Goin' South", plus an unreleased backing track for the outtake "I'm Beggin' You Please".
EDIT: I should have said lead vocal on "Goin' South", too.

Much obliged for you shedding extra light, C-Man. Sounds like Carl made the decision to decamp, albeit briefly, to Shangri-La. The Band may have washed their hands of the studio by this time—I’m uncertain. Love both those groups dearly.

Have not heard it, and from what I'm told, it's just an instrumental track with no vocals.

"That’s not a lyric I wrote" really did make me laugh out loud. What a nice article.

Maybe it's me, but I've listened to this new song several times, and I can't for the life of me hear any BG vocals, much less those of Bruce or Christian Love. Am I listening to the righty song?

The song is HERE WE GO... AGAIN.  I can distinctly hear Bruce's writing style, his production and keyboard textures.  Parts of the track wouldn't be out of place on LA Light Album... lyrically as well ("used to sing on lofts... But now we cruising on a yacht.") And I hear very lush "Stack-O-Bruce-and-Christian" bg vocals throughout, mixed low but definitely there.  This is a Bruce Johnston-LA Light Era/The Weekend 2022 mashup that works really, really well.  And it's not stunt casting with Bruce... this is very much a collaboration.  I'm seriously impressed.
