Today I was perusing my ever-growing City Pop Vinyl Collection from Japan when I realized one of the "kings" of Japanese Pop, Tatsuro Yamashita, had done a cover of
"Guess I'm Dumb". It just so happens that that's one of my favorite tracks from Brian. I figured I should share it because, honestly it really rocks!

Cool to see some obscure tracks get some love from the pop-music scene worldwide. No surprise to many here that The Beach Boys are quite popular in the land of the rising sun.

Tatsuro is a great songwriter.
He has done quite a few covers.

Here’s another obscure cover he has done “I Do”

Did he record a whole Beach Boys cover album? Add Some Music to Your Day, I think?

Almost the entire second side of the soundtrack to Big Wave (1984) consists of Beach Boys covers.  He also covered Nilsson's "This Could Be The Night" there, which is a favorite of Brian's.

I recommend Tatsu's discography if you like barbershop/beach boys harmonies. Big Wave is the tip of the iceberg... I've got the majority of his albums if you want to listen... Sort of reminds me of what would happen if Brian would strike out on his own, develop his musical instrument abilities on bass, and split off the Beach Boys in early 1970! In an alternate world maybe...

He did, it is from 1972, here is some information on it.  There are 6 BB covers on here, 8 if you include Why Do Fools Fall In Love and Devoted To You.

The more recent ones are much better.

This one is really good.  Do you know when it is from and if it was on one of his albums?

The Big Wave film is recommended viewing on YouTube (not sure I'd recommend the DVD given the average eBay asking price). An array of action sports montages (including but not limited to surfing) with English narration.
