I'm dropping the following without a second thought:

-Louie, Louie
-Long, Tall Texan
-409 (the duplicate on Vol. 3)
-Frosty The Snowman
-Girl Don't Tell Me
-Surfin'

I love Girl Don't Tell Me and Surfin', always wondered why the latter wasn't included on Endless Summer. Could definitely do without Louie Louie. Vol. 3 included only one song off Wild Honey and no Friends material at all - ouch!

The track listings of these three albums in the UK were very different and to be honest I much prefer. I guess they came out that bit later and were able to include more contemporary tracks.

I'm dropping the following without a second thought:

-Louie, Louie
-Long, Tall Texan
-409 (the duplicate on Vol. 3)
-Frosty The Snowman
-Girl Don't Tell Me
-Surfin'

There's a lot of competition to fill these spots. First check out the charting songs (top 100) left off (in chronological order):

-Ten Little Indians #49
-Shut Down #23
-Be True To Your School #6
-Do You Wanna Dance #12
-Sloop John B #3
-Wouldn't It Be Nice #8
-Wild Honey #31
-Friends #47
-Do It Again #20 (cutting it close, but this was released prior to Vol. 3)

Then consider some of these quality album tracks (in chronological order):

-Lonely Sea
-Hawaii
-Ballad of Ole Betsy
-Car Crazy Cutie
-Custom Machine
-Keep An Eye On Summer
-All Summer Long
-We'll Run Away
-Hushabye
-Girls On The Beach
-Don't Back Down
-Good To My Baby
-In The Back Of My Mind
-There's No Other (Like My Baby)

Also, consider that "God Only Knows" was the only Pet Sounds track included! Craziness!

These compilations are actually quite mercurial even to this day. One must wonder if the Capitol Records guy who made this had even listened to it when he decided to put Frosty The Snowman on one of them.
Really poor choices all around in track sequencing, selection and timing. Do both God Only Knows and 409 really belong together on the same vinyl?

Its crazy how the BBs brilliance could be buried in GH sets like these. Endless Summer really put all the right tracks together!

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I need to brainstorm a bit more on this, so no personal list yet.

If we look at top 40 hits (I think if a song is top 40 it merits inclusion), we have 26 songs (I would include Little Saint Nick since it reached #3 on the Holiday Charts):

1962
Surfin' Safari 14
1963
Surfin' U.S.A. 3
Shut Down 23
Surfer Girl 7
Little Deuce Coupe 15
Be True To Your School 6
In My Room 23
Little Saint Nick *3
1964
Fun, Fun, Fun 5
I Get Around 1
Don't Worry Baby 24
When I Grow Up (To Be a Man) 9
Dance, Dance, Dance 8
1965
Do You Wanna Dance? 12
Help Me, Rhonda 1
California Girls 3
The Little Girl I Once Knew 20
Barbara Ann 2
1966
Sloop John B 3
~Volume 1 Released~
Wouldn't It Be Nice 8
God Only Knows 39
Good Vibrations 1
1967
Heroes and Villains 12
~Volume 2 Released~
Wild Honey 31
Darlin 19
1968
Do It Again 20
~Volume 3 Released~

---

It shouldn't be *all* top 40 hits of course (and we would be 10 short anyway), and some lower-charting songs should be included (maybe some deep cuts that didn't get singles should too), but I do think that each of these warrants inclusion.

One other personal preference, I would like to use the single version where it differs from the album version.
