Cottonfields single version stereo mix intro

Is there a reason that the stereo version of "Cottonfields" (the single version) doesn't have the effect on the intro that sounds like the singer is far away and gets closer?

It could just be that Mark and Alan fancied offering up the difference as a fun tidbit, or they felt they couldn't replicate the effect in a satisfactory way.

That's certainly possible. I thought maybe something else was behind that. I like the intro of the mono version very much.

It starts with a guitar intro, when the original single version starts more like the original 20/20 version. I think that's the reason

The Original Single has that guitar intro too, but it's just quite quiet.

Yes, exactly. And I wondered why that quiet part wasn't quiet on the stereo remix. Maybe it was just because the guys liked it better that way, but maybe there's another reason.

On some compilations, that guitar intro in the mono mix does get cut off, but it's there on the original single + other comps.
