Just saw an announcement on Facebook that Mike and Bruce will appear in Viborg, Denmark, next summer, so any hopes for a full 60th reunion are dashed.

How could you say hopes are dashed?

They honored their 50th in 2012, so wouldn't it make sense to honor their 60th in 2022?

They formed the band in November 61, so I calculated with that. But you are right, Capitol was 62. They will be pushing 80; Mike will be 81, if I am not mistaken.

No.  What would make sense is to do it before somebody (else) dies.

If they cared about the mortality of their fellow bandmates, they never would've split into fractions of a band in the first place. Clearly, that is not the case, and at least a majority of the parties involved are rather motivated by the dollar.

We'll be lucky if we even have Mike and Bruce onstage next year. By the time a vaccine for covid-19 has been found, all of the guys could be in assisted living.

Yeah, it's great to be cautiously optimistic but the pandemic is projected to last until late 2021. Then after that it'll still be a gradual process as travel bans are lifted and industries reopen..

If they are to do a second reunion then I feel it ought to be in the studio, and sooner rather than later. There's still a chance they could make a cool rock and roll album (like Brian's wanted for ages) if they really got their sh!t together and all started writing again. When did Bruce last even try writing a song? He wrote great stuff in the early-mid 60's and would surely still be capable of doing so with the urging of the right producer. Four capable songwriters if you include Mike - they should be writing, and a proper group recording project with a fun/lighthearted rock'n'roll approach would be the perfect impetus.

And maybe Brian, Al, David, and Bruce could actually play more on the record (not that David Marks didn't the last time); it's a little strange with TWGTMR being a rare exception (SIP, S&S) where only one member plays on the record.

All of us would enjoy getting a new album from the Boys, but I can't see that happening. We saw what happened the last one - yeah, great first week in Billboard, then it was gone in just a few weeks. It also seems like both camps have tried to forget that album - when was the last time Brian and Al or Mike and Bruce played one of those songs in their concerts? And Mike grumbled endlessly about not getting to be alone in a room to write with Brian; he made it clear he was not happy with how the album turned out.
It was basically a Brian Wilson/Joe Thomas album with the Beach Boys adding some vocals.
No, where it's at with these guys - if things change enough in our world for this to happen - is being onstage, singing Fun, Fun, Fun, Surfer Girl, Good Vibrations and California Girls one more time.
But they really are running out of time.
And, not to derail the thread, but I have to wonder if the concert industry will ever fully recover? Already, I've seen several local venues shut down for good this summer.
Tune in tomorrow, same Beach Boys time, same Beach Boys message board.
