Watched it.  Pretty interesting to hear Billy's anecdotes and songs.  Highlight was to hear that Carl had Annie in mind when he sang GOK.  Makes total sense of course as C & A were newlyweds when the GOK vocal track was recorded.  Never gave it much thought, though, because his brother & Tony Asher wrote song.  I never appreciated this angle until now... that Carl's spectacular lead vocal on that song was heartfelt about an actual person at the time.  Wonder if that aspect of it occurred to Brian at time, i.e., that Carl might sing the lyrics with a tenderness and sincerity that he or Mike Love might not.  Just a thought.

BTW, looked up the C & A wedding date.... 2/3/66.

Thanks for the heads up, Emdeeh.

Watched it.  Billy's stories are great.  Such an interesting point about him being the only person who's played in solo shows by each of the five: Carl, Dennis, Brian, Mike and  Al. That truly is unique... and certainly his testament to his people skills!

Also, an interesting tale about how Brian gave "Lady Love" to him, Dino and Desi.  Billy's father (Carl's father-in-law) apparently asked Brian with some regularity at family dinners, "When are you going to write a song for Desi, Desi & Billy?"   Billy recounts that even though Brian split the publishing with DD&B, the song was essentially all Brian's, with Billy describing his own contribution as "dotting i's and crossing t's."  This anecdote is an interesting counter-point to ML's perennial lament about Brian and Murry stiffing him on credits.

Thanks, Emdeeh.
#3 was great.  Fun anecdote in there about the time the Hinsches and VDP encountered Groucho Marx.
Also interesting about Billy singing on a June '67 Heroes & Villains session.

Volume 3 was terrific, wow! That was an awesome session. Highly recommended!

Great stories all around, but the Van Dyke Parks story with Groucho is a classic. No one delivered a faster and better one-liner than Groucho Marx.

Also worth noting was Billy's stories about the BB's 25th anniversary Hawaii concert. Showing Ray Charles the chords to various tunes...and Billy telling us the first line of Sail On Sailor according to Van Dyke is actually "I sailed a notion" rather than "ocean". Which is actually ironic because one of the great misheard lyrics of all time is "Surfin USA"...some heard and hear "If everybody had a notion..." which actually puts the entire song into a different stratosphere of creating mythology around California and surfing with that misheard word...but it's really "ocean"!

I don't do the Face Book, but does Billy answer questions from people?  I was wondering if someone would pose some questions about Carl's guitars to him.

A change of plans for this Saturday's LIVE FROM BILLY'S PLACE (7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET) -- from Billy Hinsche's Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/billy.hinsche

Quote from: Billy Hinsche
As some of you may know, I had some technical issues with last week’s show #4 so I’ve decided to redo the broadcast in its entirety, pre-record it, and air it on Facebook as a “Watch Party” so that I can interact with you and your comments. This is another “first” for me so I hope everything goes according to plan. My songs and stories will reference Bob Dylan, DD&B, Terry Melcher, Roger McGuinn, Carl Wilson, Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon and others -- I hope to see you there ... !

I commented on one of his posts and he answered. Generally, he seems to be very responsive on facebook as far as I can tell. So if you're posting a question in the comments, maybe he will pick it up.

Such a great new episode. I'm really enjoying this series.  Billy comes across as such a nice guy.  I've seen him perform but have never met him in person.  Seems like a real mensch.
For those who have never seen the videos of the '83 White House gig.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdXGlcwUvRA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJyjszg_PJs

Bittersweet to see the three Wilson brothers together on stage for one of the final times, with Denny thrilled to be there and having a ball. And not to get into politics, but also bittersweet reminder of a time when the country wasn't so divided. The Beach Boys, the Reagans, the Kennedys & Shrivers, Richard Pryor and Christopher Reeve all hanging out together at the White House and there was nothing weird about it (well, except for maybe Landy lurking around on the stage in a few shots. haha).
