Attached is a clipping from the classified section of the September 5, 1965 issue of “The Los Angeles Times” (page 214).
1448 Laurel Way is listed as one of the properties having “sold this week”. If accurate, this means that Brian and Marilyn purchased it between August 29th and September 4th of that year.
This is nearly 3 months after the release of “Summer Days and Summer Nights” and right at the beginning of the “Party” sessions - much later than I thought.
I’ve always assumed, incorrectly, that he composed “California Girls” and much of SDSN at this house.

Modified, but valued at just short of $4M now.

As I understand it, Brian and Marilyn were only in the house for about 2.5 years, but it's the site of Brian's peak creativity... where all of the Pet Sounds/Good Vibrations/Smile songs were written. For that reason, it should be really ought to be afforded historical-landmark status. Seriously. Like Mozart's homes in Salzburg. I'm not kidding.

Has anyone put together a timeline of where Brian lived during this time? I guess after he left his parents' house he lived in an apartment (which still exists) and later a duplex (which no longer exists) before moving into this house in late 1965.

I went on Google's street view and took a "virtual drive" from 1448 Laurel Way to Western Recorders. The site says it's about a 22 minute drive. It was an interesting small piece from Brian's life at the time, though I'm sure things have changed a lot since 1966.

The residential part in the hills is probably about the same, actually. But once you hit Hollywood, it certainly is not the same!

Damn, it would take me 4-5 months to make enough money to make the monthly payment on that place.
