Argh, someone help, I can't remember.  What I do know is...

-It's from the late 80s
-I don't know if it's ever been officially released... i think it was played live but it never got a release
-There's a video of it, Brian sitting at a piano, dressed in a sharp grey suit, I think, singing and playing
-Brian is skinny and dark-haired at this point, and I think he is wearing thick glasses
-The song is sung from the point of view of a woman... it's something about how the woman loves her man, or has to put up with her man, or something.

Thanks!!  Grin

"I Sleep Alone".  I believe it was recorded by some female artist... EDIT: search reveals it was intended for Sarah Brightman.

FURTHER EDIT: at the same appearance, Bri performed his absolute best ever solo rendition of "God Only Knows". Stunning.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

That version of "God Only Knows" was incredible! I would even go as far as to say that it's one of the greatest ever performed. It's actually better than a few versions I've heard with Carl singing.

That God Only Knows performance is absolutely stunning. How much of that performance is 100% live? I feel in the coda that there are multiple Brian voices. Nonetheless, it's breathtakingly beautiful and fills me with a warm sensation each time I hear it.

Hopefully a higher quality version will surface some day.

Wow, I've never seen that GOK performance but it's almost like it's from a parallel reality in which Brian survived completely intact. Stunning.

I remember seeing that performance when it aired, just a few months after BW88 was released. I did find it odd that he didn't play any songs from the album, but I liked "Sleep Alone", kind of an oddball song. He looked so good back then, and it was real exciting that he was writing and recording new songs.
