This is the Doris Day song I remember from the '50s. Ninety-seven is a good age. Rest in peace, Ms. Day.

RIP. Sad When I read the news yesterday, I didn't even know she was still alive!

Whenever I hear of Doris Day I think of this:

I didn't find Mr. Dean's reply cruel. Care to explain?

Btw, when I read she passed at 97, I calculated it should be 95 & been thinking "Is 97 typo?". Since her birth year previously stated clearly "1924". But now, it says "1922" huh? Bizarre.

Seems she lopped two years off her age somewhere along the line. So yes, she was born in 1922 and died aged 97.

Bruce once said something like "People look at us and think we're surfing Doris Days". That's all. And the expression "a cruel thrust" is generally said in jest. Wink

This is another Doris song I remember well. The gorgeous "Move Over Darling" (1964) was co-written by son Terry Melcher and arranged by Jack Nitzsche, with The Blossoms on backing vocals. Seems "MOD" went top ten in the UK but missed out completely in the States.

I honestly genuinely meant that Bruce must have been saddened by the passing of Doris, blimey - After all he must have had an awful lot of contact through the years with his lengthy association with her son Terry Melcher and also not withstanding his very successful compilation of Doris out takes a few years ago AND the fact that they have been near neighbours in Carmel SO YES he would have been saddened at the news

Me and my big mouth. Truly sorry about that.

I got it at face value, that you genuinely meant Bruce will be sad, not as some elaborate hint at "surfing Doris Days" phrase which didn't even match what you said, else you'd say it in joking manner. Thanks to confirm I got it right, Mr. Dean.

Re: Doris cutting 2 yrs to seem young - actually, it isn't the case:

Quote
For most of her life, Day reportedly believed she had been born in 1924 and reported her age accordingly; it was not until her 95th birthday — when the Associated Press found her birth certificate, showing a 1922 date of birth — that she learned otherwise.

Oops... moving on (said Mr. Foot-In-Mouth).

The popular Dutch-language '80s band Doe Maar took their song "Doris Day" into the Dutch top ten in 1982.

(There must be more songs that mention Ms. Day.)

Here's another song named after Ms. Day, by the Vancouver-based band Sleuth:
