Hi everybody,

Since several people wrote to me and asked for a new link - here you go. I'm sorry that it took so long but I massively extended the collection because I wanted to include new stuff and not just present the same set again. So what's new?

- complete liner notes for each disc / every folder
- updated picture gallery
- new version of 'H & V'  (D. Parks acetate, vocal mix)
- new version of 'H & V (Part II)'  (A Cappella)

- COMPLETE 'HEROES & VILLAINS' SESSIONS: - Master Sections
                                                                        - Master Tracks & Vocals
                                                                        - Outtakes & Rehearsals

I cut all master- and alternate mixes as well as all the session tracks back into sections so that you can quickly try out any possible sequence / combination of the material. Included is everything that was ever intended or tried out for the song and you not only get all the final master sections, you get the master backing tracks, a cappella sections, outtakes and rehearsals as well - in the best possible sound quality, whenever possible in stereo but the unique mono mixes are also included!

- 'SMILE' ERA VIDEO COLLECTION: - 'Mrs. O'Leary's Cow'  (New edit with stereo sound)
                                                       - 'Do You Like Worms?'  (New montage video with stereo sound)
                                                       - 'Good Vibrations'  (New video clip with stereo sound)
                                                       - 'Surf's Up'  (Brian's solo performance on 'Inside Pop')
                                                       - 'God Only Knows'  (Live, Hawaii 1967)

This took me months to finish. I made completely new videos for the first three songs while the last two are high quality versions of the known edits.

'Mrs. O'Leary's Cow' is a unique combination of the 'Fire' session footage Dennis Wilson took and scenes from the promo clip originally shot for 'Good Vibrations' - it's not the version presented on the 'An American Band' DVD, it's a totally new edit.

'Do You Like Worms?' is a montage of various Beach Boys clips shot between 1966 and 1967, it features the epic 'Carl turns into Dennis and back' sequence as well as multiple clips of the band rehearsing, performing and goofing around in Hawaii - all arranged following the rhythm of the song and taking cues from the lyrics.

'Good Vibrations' is neither the afore mentioned promo clip nor a live performance synched up with the studio version. Let's keep this a surprise...

That's it folks!
This time I use google drive as several people suggested - I never did this before, so let me know if the link works.

Why would they take it down?

- If you go through the set track by track (and read the notes) you'll see that these are all alternate versions and mixes.
- I don't make any money with this.
- This is not a bootleg.
- The official release was issued in 2011 so I guess people still interested in 'Smile' most surely bought it years ago (and again: my collection ADDS to the official one - it doesn't make the 'old' box set superfluous!)
- It's free advertisment for the Beach Boys, I don't want to rip them off I want to promote them!

I know this kind of thing is always debatable. If the band would want me to take it down I would immediately delete the files. Nevertheless the web is a jungle and you can quickly find practically everything you're looking for (not necessarily my set but music in general) - it's out there anyway...
So please don't take it down, give everybody a chance to enjoy this!

The footage with them in the studio with the fire hats isn't an actual session for that track. Wrong studio.

Oooops! I really didn't know that, since Brian said he had everybody wear fire helmets during the 'fire' session I was convinced that the footage was indeed from this very session...strange (I seem to remember that I had also read this several times but I might be wrong). If the footage was not taken at the 'fire' session - where and when was it taken? Please let me know if you have any information on this so that I can correct the liner notes.

Has it ever been agreed on who the ball dribbler is?? I think the only thing that's been definitive is it's not Marilyn. Personally, I think it looks to old to be Barbara (wasn't she like 15 then??), so my money's on Diane.

Hey all,

All the Heroes and Villains first verse mixes on this sound really fresh and vast, compared to the mix on the Smile Sessions.

I tried to edit the first verse onto the Smile Sessions mix, but it crossfades into the dixieland section on Syd's mix, so it's not possible.
Are there any ways around this? Is it possible for someone to isolate that verse and put it in front of the Smile Sessions H&V mix?

Thanks.

Oh cool, never mind. I found it isolated in the Heroes and Villains master sections. Awesome stuff.

Just spot-listened to a few snippets here and there.  I will admit I found a couple of the edits to be a tad jarring (such as inserting a "Heroes & Villains" tag into the middle of "Surf's Up") but these are minor quibbles.  This is good stuff.  Thanks for sharing.

Hey Syd,

Just want to say again how much I love your presentation of the Smile material - it's a fresh approach. You take quite a few risks but the result, to my ears, is a coherent piece of work keeping the humour but keeping the right side of goofy.

A couple of questions though: I have the tracks in mp3 and wav and in both formats each track ends with about 10 seconds of silence. Is this deliberate or is this some quirk of my downloads? I realize 2-3 seconds silence between banded album tracks is normal, but 10 seconds seems too much and breaks the flow. I have thought about using Audacity to clip the length of the silences but I thought I would ask 1) Is this length of silence intentional on your part? (And if so why) and 2) Do you have the tracks without these 10 second breaks? (If not I guess I'll be cracking open Audacity).

Just like to say again: I really really like your mixes. They're up there with Smile A.D. and soniclovenoize in my book.
