Saw him in 2006. What an act!

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

And you'll never hear surf music again.

RIP Dick Dale

Yesterday afternoon I saw a totally unexpected clip of someone playing "Misirlou" on a marimba (this was before the news broke). And this morning Mr Dale's passing actually got a mention in the news bulletin on Dutch classical radio, an honour not bestowed on Peter Tork let alone Hal Blaine.

Thank you, sir, for some of the finest surf music on the planet.

I saw him multiple times in Cleveland in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I recently found a copy "Surfer's Choice" on vinyl. I was thinking I should go see him next time he was in town. I dug out my threadbare "I'm a Dick Head" T-shirt to wear in his honor yesterday and played his records. What a loss.

As a trubute to DD, here are the (originally spoken/recorded) recollections of a great, late Dick Dale fan (who too died from cancer):
