Brian's official instagram account has been posting some unreleased stuff (Love You Demos and I'm Broke) lately.

Today, they posted "a scratch demo for "Terry, She Needs Me"", which probably is "Terri, She Needs Me" recorded in spring 1988.: https://www.instagram.com/p/BuGzm-_n_Nf/

I wonder if these stuff is going to be released as, say, part of an accompanying soundtrack to the upcoming BW documentary.

Cool. Hopefully it's still up when I'm on a computer with sound. However, it's tagged as #1998. If it's "Terry/Terri She Needs Me" wouldn't it be 1988?

Was there something going on with this song where if you mailed Brian a special request, he'd personalize a version for you?

Yeah, it's supposed to be so, but the backing track, to me, sounds unlike the 1998 version - my guess is that they mis-associated this version with the year 1998 than 1988, as that was when this song was finally got released.

It’s unfortunate they just record these using a phone pointed in front of a computer.

This is the kind of thing that blows my mind. To just have this drop in our laps.

It's clearly a demo track, but for the life of me I can't tell if if dates from 88 or 98. I remember hearing a 98 demo track for LHRW, for instance, that sounded somewhat similar.

On the other hand, Brian's vocal definitely has more of the pinched, whiny sound of his late '80s recordings.

I wonder if Mark would know?

I think this is 98.  I have heard an 88 version of Terri, where Brian sings incredibly high.  This is different.

One thing I noticed about this version is that the chorus is slightly different, like it ended up on Imagination("I don't know whether we're gonna be together"...), but the tone of his voice sounds like vintage 1980's to me. It has that distinctive "Wilson whine" that disappeared around the mid 90's.

Russ T would have kept the killer bass line that J T dropped.  Definitely 98 vintage.  Matt's description says it all, Brian's 88 falsetto was OTT, hence the marketing marvel of an original BW/RT composition finally released 33 years later did not happen.
I want to hear Terri......now!
