I saw one of the Full House episodes where Uncle Jessie is going to record Forever...as Mike and Bruce step in, Jessie refers to Mike as Dr. Love, is this self-proclaimed (i could see that) or John Stamos called him this? short lived it seems...

also, with the character Jessie always looking for his break with a record company, was this trouble for him in real life? Did he ever want to release a record? Jessie and the Rippers? (besides Bummer in Paradise)

He referred to him as Dr. Love in the "Beach Boy Bingo" episode as well. The one when DJ wins a contest to goto the Beach Boys concert in a limo with the group.

Jesse plays the same character in another show where he was a "struggling" musician, I guess thats his niche.

Yeah, Maybe Gene Simmons was thinking of Mike when he wrote 'Calling Dr. Love' (Perhaps Mike taught Gene how to treat the ladies well  Grin)

At least there's a relationship with "I was made to love you" and "Heroes&Villain" (or for that matter "Bycicle rider")

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

He was real into the name in 92-3. On Howard Stern he refered to himself that way. In the infamous Goldmine interview he did and he signed my concert ticket (in 1993) that way too. He was pretty cool about signing though.

It was in use before 1992.  This is an audio interview from 1989 and he references the name himself in the opener.
