When you play "This Whole World" by the Beach Boys, they go "Aumm-bop-diddit...", and I always think of the Buddhist mantra, "Aumm". Any connection there? Were the BB's getting all spiritual? Or is it just that it sounds good.

Interesting! The closest I could get to the "aumm" sound as one of a number of nonsense syllables was in Dallas Frazier's "Elvira" from 1966:

It's long been understood to be a meditation/doowop hybrid. Understood by me, at least. And rock writers such as Ken Barnes, who mentioned it back in the '70s.

Agreed. It's hard to miss and was done perfectly.

On a closely related Sunflower vocal arrangement, for ADD SOME MUSIC, Brian made use of Roy Orbison's ONLY THE LONELY (dum dum dum dum bee doo..) and The Cadillac's SPEEDO (bop bop a diddle it).

no, it's not a Buddhist mantra, how silly

it is AH-OOM

the title of a song from a 1962 movie Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm

in a fairy-tale sequence there it is a 'make-work' type song made up by the elves while they finish the cobblers shoe repairs over Christmas night

(I think the score was written by Leigh Harline)

very enchanting
