I think they looked cool until about 76-77. The shorts on stage is when it all went wrong.
Carl really messed up when he cut his mane in late 80's and donned full suits and big sunglasses, WTF?!!!

Yeah, those mid-80's live clips can be a little embarrassing to watch.  (Live Aid, Farm Aid, etc.)  The performances were OK, but the clothes....whoa!

Last time Carl looked really good was right before Dennis died. Brian looked good until about 88 when he began to really age. Al I would say 74 or so Mike maybe 68. Bruce perhaps 78-9, Dennis 77 release party for P.O.B. after that disaster area!

I have to admit that I think Al still looked cool in the early 90s with that long hair and all. In the video to "Problem child" he reminds me of David Lee Roth (a little). Also in the booklet to Stars&Stripes with the hair, white shirt and black pants....cool !

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
