It'll be interesting to see what materializes. I might consider a trial (I think my cable provider used to air SiriusXM channels, but now they use some crummy "Music Choice" service).

DISH Satellite TV has Sirius XM, starting at channel 6002. Had it on Deep Tracks channel this evening ( 6027) and heard "Don't Talk..."
Unfortunately some of the channels have different programming from what you would hear on their radio or app. Channel 6004, which corresponds to channel 4, plays techno dance music; on the radio or app they're playing "wedding music" until Thursday. GOK is on regular rotation there.

Also can't get the Beatles or Tom Petty channels, but can get Elvis and Bruce Springsteen.

Just heard promo for station. Someone (Al?) said "Brian had figured it out." Yep.

I truly hope that one of the outcomes of this channel is that tons of people will learn to appreciate the enormous body of work of the Beach Boys and will become diehard fans like us.

Right now they are playing a mishmash of songs with bits of alternative snippets of GV and Surfer Girl. It's a continuous loop of a minute or so .

It appears streaming on the phone app is free, so I've downloaded that and I'll give it a try.

On the app there might be a 10 minute delay - might be as late as 12:10 ET before it starts

Thanks for the heads-up. It'll do just to try it out. It's honestly rather confusing how some elements of this work. They encourage starting a free trial (or, of course, buying a subscription), and don't heavily advertise that apparently you can listen for free without even having an account or signing in on the smartphone app (and possibly the desktop app). I guess it's the SiriusXM version of Spotify/Pandora, etc. in that I'm sure it has less features (less skips, etc.). But even with the free app versions of Spotify or Pandora, they make you start an account. But confusingly, with this SiriusXM app, I just downloaded the app and off I an go; apparently for now anyway.

Looks like they've dumped all relevant albums into the database and did a healthy "shuffle." I guess I would achieve something pretty similar hitting "shuffle" on my IPod, but still very cool and nothing but good for the BBs brand-wise.

Sirius knows their stuff -- I'd bet it's a bit more thought-through than that. The first 45 minutes or so bodes pretty well for me.

(Although if I did a shuffle with my collection, you'd get a bunch more unreleased BW solo work, which might not be quite what the channel is aiming for ...)

Oh yes, I'm sure they have some algorithms that go beyond a literal shuffle, such as not duplicating the same song titles too many times (since the hits are on about ten billion different compilations) and probably hitting different eras.

True, my IPod would also give me like 37 live and studio versions of GV, California Girls, etc., and then unreleased stuff, etc.

But yes, the tracks seem to cast a good and wide net. It's not like "Sounds of Summer" with other stuff sprinkled in.

The studio chatter before "Help Me, Rhonda" sounded like it was from the Today version. I think that this is unreleased.

I think we gotta brace for just about anything that has been released somewhere, somehow.

And I dunno, I *might* take Stamos's "Forever" over the Toby Keith track. Faint praise of course.

It'll be interesting to see if any previously released tracks will make the cut that haven't been released on CD/digitally and/or have been out of print for eons. Stuff like "Happy Endings", "Chasin' the Sky", that weird live b-side version of "California Girls" from the 80s, the "Sunkist" album; stuff like "Runaway", the live DC '84 and '85 tracks, etc.

Does anyone think that C50 live stuff was declared off limits? (Wasn't sure because of the discussion in the other thread about future live/archival releases.)

I would doubt it. They're playing stuff from "Stars and Stripes" and "Summer in Paradise", and in at least one case pulled a BB track from some random multi-artist compilation. I'm guessing anything already in the SiriusXM catalog along with any other previously released BB and solo material is all fair game.

They may not lean heavily on live stuff, especially since those albums would mostly duplicate song titles found on studio albums; we don't know yet. I'm going to guess they will air live stuff too.

But, the fact that we're getting stuff like SIP tracks and solo tracks tells me there was no vetting of material as far as excluding anything that is only the core catalog of albums.

The only core catalog stuff that I'm guessing *might* not appear would be stuff where no digital/CD release has ever occurred (e.g. "Looking Back with Love"), or stuff that currently is OOP and not licensed to any streaming services (e.g. some of Al's solo stuff).
