Seen on amazon.co.uk

two illustrated books by Arthur Miller, "Get Around" (44 pages) and "Charles Manson & The Beach Boys!: Bad Vibrations!" (52 pages)

Have any of you bought and read these books? Would you recommend them?

Based on the covers, I assume these are self-published?

First thought as well! Grin

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

No, they are not mine. Yes, they are self-published, through Createspace, which is why I am asking. It it's just fannish regurgitations, I am not sure I am interested.

Isn’t that Dennis/Manson photo super fake? Looks like some real high quality reading Roll Eyes

I think we have the award for best response ever.  You win $1,000,000! (Insert the winning horns from The Price Is Right here)

They say don't judge a book by it's cover......but I'm going to here, and these look like amateur hour.

Some self-published books are great and end up being the only way the stuff can make it out there. I'm sure there are a number of folks on this board who could put together a worthwhile BB book of that nature.

But, not to overemphasize this board's place in the BB world, I have to say that any self-published book that hasn't been publicized by its author here on this board just *may* be a pretty rinky affair.

I think BB authors know that this board knows their s**t, and we saw what happened with that Carl Wilson bio from a couple years back, which actually saw mainstream distribution.

The only time a self-published book with a crappy cover and questionable editing is worth it is when it's a truly inside story/source. I'd put Scott Wilson's "Son of a Beach Boy" in that category.

Thanks for all your input, guys, guess I'll pass on these. I am sure a self-pubbed book could be potentially good. Imagine if someone compiled those classic zines, like Beach Boys Australia, Beach Boys Stomp,  or whatever they are called. I saw a run of those in a specialist bookstore in London, but they were too expensive for me.

scrutinizing that bogus dennis/manson supposed old photo the dead giveaway is denny's facial hair, typical of mid-'70s NOT 1968 when he knew manson.  it almost seems as if whoever photoshopped this selected a particular dennis image for the purpose of matching mansons level of facial hair

This one has some great contemporary fanzine articles, mostly from around 1979 to 1983-ish (I think the book professes to cover 1978 to 1984):

It's quite interesting to read what fanzines thought of what the group was doing in that MIU/LA/KTSA period, and what was going on in the fan world when Carl left the band, etc.
