I was watching the boys in a sitcom called 'You Again' and saw Mike wearing this really cool jacket. I know what you're thinking, Mike's never worn anything cool in his life but trust me, this thing looked neat. After doing some research I discovered the jacket was designed by someone named Sherry Holt, who is listed on IMDB as a Costume and Wardrobe designed for 'You Again' and and BB movie titled '25 Years Together'.

This shirt is not available on eBay at the moment or anywhere else. Does anyone know how common they were and what they sold for? Does anyone have any more pics of any member of the Beach Boys wearing one? Finally, did it come in XXL?  Grin

Here is some information on the company who designed the jacket, as well as a great photo of it.

I don't know anything about this particular clothing line, but I do believe the band entered and/or attempted to enter in to several business ventures like clothing lines and restaurants, and some of those ventures either never happened or failed relatively quickly.

So I wouldn't assume 100% that that clothing line ever hit retail.

Even if it did, BB merchandise like that for whatever reason isn't super common. Even regular tour merchandise, while available on eBay, is surprisingly not as ubiquitous as one would think for a band that toured non-stop for 30-40 years.

As for that particular jacket Mike wore, to each his/her own of course, but to me that screams 1986 indeed. I'm not sure how cool it even was for 1986.

Someone bought me one of those Reyn Spooner Hawaiian Beach Boys shirts (the one with the album covers), and it's just not particularly my thing. No offence to those who dig them, but any enthusiasm I may have had for wearing it was dampened by going to shows and seeing numerous dudes looking perilously close to Mike Love himself wearing the shirts.  LOL

This listing for the jacket indicates the jacket is made of tyvek, which makes sense considering the look:

http://www.rokit.co.uk/products/boutique-bomber-jackets-coach-3

My recollection from the era of tyvek jackets are that they are super duper cheap and like wearing a tissue paper jacket. The lack of an abundance of them might be due to them not holding up over the years. Tyvek may be very hard to tear, but it also looks like crap when aged or weathered in any way.

But I'm the last person to talk to about clothing or fashion....  3D

That one is pretty neat, too!
I am looking for something to stand out from the crowd when I go see Mike and Bruce in February.  3D

There are a few listings for Sherry Holt-designed BB items on eBay. A t-shirt, a button shirt, etc. Pretty generic Hawaiian stuff. VERY VERY 80s, that's for sure.

Completed/sold auctions show a few additional shirts, shorts, and baseball caps. I'm guessing some if not most of this stuff was sold at concerts.

You might want to keep an ongoing search on eBay running for "Sherry Holt Beach Boys", and maybe one of those jackets will pop up.

Hey jude, I like the 1st shirt you posted in that last post.

Yeah, just a touch of 80s is nice.

I'm far more nostalgic and sentimental about the BBs in the 80s than maybe some of my posts indicate. Objectively it was an awful time for the group on many levels, and I can't say a ton of my favorite stuff came from that era. But it's all so ingrained into my brain that I can't help but have a soft spot for it. Even the "Full House" stuff. As long one will agree that it's objectively awful, it then somehow becomes much easier to enjoy it on some level.

I'd pay a nice hunk of change for a nice-looking DVD set of all the BB stuff from the '89 "Endless Summer" TV show (which will apparently never happen as the master videotapes were destroyed as the story goes).

Tyvek is the same material used to wrap homes with prior to siding. It's plenty tough.

It's plenty tough (try ripping through a tyvek priority mail envelope) and is great for wrapping and for industrial suit sort of applications, but it isn't really great material for a jacket. It always looks wrinkled, and doesn't exactly look better when washed, etc.

HOBO Clothing (for Holt and Boys, get it?) was one in a line of failed endeavors.  Started around 1986.  I was never able able to find of the merchandise back at the time, pre-internet.  All of the clothing worn by the group in the 25 years together special was part of the line

Brian and Mike slap a high five to celebrate the endless future possibilities of the Hobo clothing line:

And indeed Glen Campbell appears to be wearing a variant of the t-shirt pictured in one of the posts above:

I bought that jacket in 1987 from their merchandise stand when they played in Milwaukee. I still have it and it looks like brand new, although it always looked wrinkled. Interesting side note about that show...Al was not there but Brian was and I remember the reviewer in the Milwaukee Journal said that Brian "stalked around like Frankenstein on stage". I still thought it was a pretty good show.

Yeesh on the clothes (Though we need to send them all to OSD).... Grin

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Great plan SB!  Love OSD but not ready to give up my Brian Wilson Tribute Show bath robe, nor the Christine McVie designed Tusk tour jacket yet - besides, the jacket would be too small and I doubt he'd want "Debbie" embroidered on either!   Wink

I've forgotten how to upload photos here, but took a couple of shots of it just now.  Can anyone remind me how to upload photos (I think a had to go through some online site?), and reduce them so that they don't take over the page?  I also took photos of the BW bathrobe for insurance purposes.  Who knows where they are?  Organization is no longer my strong suit. The jacket's faded some over the past 37 years, but Christine had wonderful taste - she was also a sculptor and painter, as I recall.  I need to take them somewhere to be cleaned and preserved.

More styles existing would suggest it's more likely this line did hit retail somewhere at some point for some length of time.

I would pay SO much for this jacket.

My girlfriend has one of those Tyvek jackets. Different design to those above and it is THE BEES KNEES!
