Looks like Al's 2015 Christmas single "Hurry Up Hurry Up Santa Claus" has been "reissued" digitally with new cover art:

So Al’s new concert series is mostly acoustic right? I really hope that such acoustic styles will seep into his studio work. It’s not unknown that Al likes folk music; it would be phenomenal to have him do a folk/acoustic album with Matt and a couple others. Those harmonic voices with some guest artists, banjo, fiddle would make a killer album.

Anyways, not to go all off topic, it just strikes me as odd that Al records usually in this style and not in a more folk style.

I think in the case of this XMas track, Al was just handed a song and asked to sing it. Understandably, compared to 2015, they're not going out of their way to emphasize the co-writer of the song.

Makes me wonder why they’d rerelease it anywaysz

Meh, it's Christmas time, and someone wants to push the song again (and, I guess, it still benefits charity?).

It's the digital equivalent of a repackaging.

It's on Spotify, as well. Too bad Al's album isn't.

Wow, yeah, I guess I hadn't noticed Al's "Postcards" is out of print on CD, and not available as a digital download.

I have three friggin' copies of the CD, the original barebones Amazon "MOD" CD from 2010, the reissue US CD from 2012, and the Japan SHM CD also from 2012.

It looks like you can still score a used copy of the US CD for a not-too-extravagant amount, and also it appears Amazon has the Japan import CD for $38 new, which isn't bad for a Japanese import.

It's a good album; if you don't own it, it's worth the $30-$40.

But yeah, I hope Al can get this thing in print again ASAP if he's going to sort of tour on the back of it, at least in terms of the tour's title.

I don't have the actual Spotify app installed on this computer to check if it'll play, but this page on Spotify seems to imply "Postcard" is still up:

And it’s not on Apple Music?!

I switched to Apple Music because they had more exclusives and music than Spotify. I’ve really missed hearing Al’s album, hope it makes it to AM one of these months.

Did you find that link on Al's website? It doesn't play. It used to be on Spotify, but at some point it disappeared. I'm not sure when. Rab2591 had wondered why they re-released Hurry Up Hurry Up Santa Claus, but my perspective is that the more widely available the BBs music is the better (for the fans, at least). I'm not sure how widely available the song was prior to this re-release, but I'm glad it's on itunes, amazon, spotify, and CDBaby now. This re-release coupled with the mini tour announcement named after his album had me thinking that maybe Al's camp was making an immediate, collective effort to get his music 'out there' more. Which I think is a good thing. And I assume that getting his album back on Spotify would be relatively easy ? Perhaps that's wishful thinking, I don't know. Getting it back in print would be ideal, though. I'd just like to see all of his (and the rest of the BBs) released music as available as possible. Now, both of Carl's albums (after they were re-released) and This Is Elvis is on Spotify for new listeners to find. You can even find his Olivia Newton-John collaboration listed on his page under "appears on" (unfortunately alongside music that he didn't appear on).

It's a good album; if you don't own it, it's worth the $30-$40.

Absolutely. I'll admit that it's one of the few BBs releases I don't own, yet. I've listened to it quite a few times though, and I'm a fan. I welcome more music from Al!

@B.E. You’re absolutely right, I should just be thankful that Al is making music still. I too hope this is a push of marketing and out of it we will see his solo album on streaming services.

What happened to the 2015 thread about this single? Can’t find it for the life of me. Anyways, I remember making a post there back then about the charity contest thing that tied into the single. One of the prizes of the contest was a “CD signed by Al Jardine” and I speculated that that meant “Hurry Up, Hurry Up Santa Claus” existed on CD. Someone then pointed out to me that the contest could have been talking about a signed Postcard From California CD. Well, I just found out in the comment section on Al’s Facebook that it was indeed “Hurry Up.” Must be quite the rare CD!

Yeah, I don't think CDBaby sold the single as a physical CD. I'm guessing they printed up a one-off (or did a super short run for promo purposes).

I really like the new artwork for this, especially the toon of Al and his white Strat. The recording is the same as the earlier release, yes?

I haven't listened to the new release, but the impression I've gotten is that yes, it's the same.

But you never know, Al's been known to remix his stuff on the sly. I think "Drivin'" got remixed between the 2010 and 2012 versions of "Postcards."
