Updated the top post with some setlist updates and some new live dates.

It looks like Al is doing a third variation of a touring lineup, "Al Jardine's Endless Summer Band" (not to be confused with "Al Jardine's Endless Summer", which is the title he uses for his "Storytellers" gigs), which would appear (though it's not certain) to be basically the "Family & Friends" full-band lineup minus Carnie and Wendy.

Which would basically be more or less a variation of the type of gig Al was doing before re-joining with Brian in 2012 (and occasionally since as well).

Oh dear. Get well anybody effected. ☹️

Friday, July 29

Due to circumstances related to Covid-19, Al Jardine, Carnie Wilson and Wendy Wilson will not be appearing at the Al Jardine Family & Friends concert being held tonight, July 29 at 8:00pm on the Frontier Stage.

The concert will, however, go on as scheduled and will feature Al’s son, Matt Jardine. Matt Jardine has toured for many years with both The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson. Matt has received rave reviews from both fans and critics for his stunning lead vocals on songs like God Only Knows, Don't Worry Baby, and Surf's Up.

Audiences will enjoy legendary hits of The Beach Boys, including “Help Me Rhonda”, “California Girls”, “I Get Around”, “God Only Knows”, and “Good Vibrations” to name a few.

I hope Al gets better. He seems to live very healthily so I'm expecting a recovery Smiley

That show without him and the girls did go ahead after all. And from videos and reports, it still seems like it was a great time overall. There are plenty of BB/J&D tribute bands made up of current/past touring members, with this one being essentially a Cal Saga show, and all of those groups are outta sight. Looks like Matthew and Randell were leaders in making the show go on. Kudos to all of those musicians: the music sounded great and they made the best of a difficult situation.

Normally they wouldn't have been able to continue on with the gig without the three "names." I'm guessing because this was a "Fair" gig, where the show is free with admission, they don't have to warranty anything about who is on stage. Had this been a show that required paying for a ticket specifically for the concert, I would imagine the show would have been canceled.

I've seen the YouTube videos; this did up essentially being one of those "California Surf Inc." shows (plus Debbie Shair I guess). Matt is great on vocals and those guys are all good musicians. The harmonies sounded good for what the were; I think Ed Carter and Bobby Figueora are awesome, but they of course can't provide the same harmony stack that Carnie, Wendy, and Al can.

It's still a bit surprising they went ahead with the gig with not even one of the three big names on the billing. Filling the show with stuff like a guitar solo in the middle of "In My Room" is interesting and all, and on clearly very little notice they sound very good, but that's a tough spot for the band and the audience.

But I don't think it's a big deal; this was a unique case where they even had the ability to try to keep the booking.

The In My Room guitar solo was unplanned. People were getting up to slow dance so rather than kill the momentum, the band called an audible.

Yes, and it sounded nice. I just suspect it would not be so loosey-goosey with Al, Carnie, and Wendy on stage. Stuff like that isn't bad, it just adds to the vibe that this was all happening because the main performers weren't there.

Can someone point me towards the videos of this show? Just a little curious about how it went down!

Just to make sure everybody is confused, Al has booked a show for December 9th in Cincinnati. It's an "Endless Summer Band" show, which is usually "Family & Friends" minus Carnie and Wendy. But this time, it will apparently include Matt and Carnie, but not Wendy. I guess at that point either band name makes equal sense. I dunno. Anyway, I've added it to the top post schedule.

I thought this would be a good place to post this:

"Sloop John B" - Al Jardine (The Beach Boys) & The Kingston Trio - Directed by Chip Miller

This live version of the classic hit song, "Sloop John B" is a music video excerpt from the PBS TV Pledge Special all-star concert, "The Kingston Trio Celebration," featuring surprise guest, Al Jardine of The Beach Boys.  The full concert aired from 2016 through 2019 and is now available on all major video streaming platforms from MVD Distributors.

Taped in LA at the Avalon Hollywood (formerly the iconic Hollywood Palace Theater), this Trio song features the Trio's Bill Zorn, George Grove, and Rick Dougherty on vocals, guitars, and banjo, with their very special guest, Al Jardine singing lead vocal on the smash hit he made famous with The Beach Boys.  Longtime Trio bassist, Paul Gabrielson handles upright bass.

This music video and the full PBS concert special was directed by award-winning filmmaker, Chip Miller, who also co-produced with Terrel Cass.  Bryan Greenberg was DP, and Head Camera Operators included MTV pioneer film director, William Dear, and Cameron Cannon.  Travis Miller Line Produced and co-edited with director Miller.

"Sloop John B" is a presentation of Desert C.A.M. Studios.

HeyJude: just wanted to thank you for keeping this thread going all these years!

It was fun to scroll back and read the 2018 posts and reviews... I can't believe the amazing NYC City Winery show I saw was almost 5 years ago. Sadly some family issues prevented me from attending the Sony Hall show last year. I'd really love to see Al in a NY-area appearance sometime this year... with Brian seemingly retired from touring, it would be great if Al and Matt can step things up a bit more. 🤞
