The writing was clearly on the wall. This was the beginning of the end...

We are going to split the album in two, so round #11 is Disc 1 and round #12 will be Disc 2.

Quote
The Beatles, also known as the White Album, is the ninth studio album by English rock group the Beatles, released on 22 November 1968. A double album, its plain white sleeve has no graphics or text other than the band's name embossed,[a] which was intended as a direct contrast to the vivid cover artwork of the band's earlier Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Although no singles were issued from The Beatles in Britain and the United States, the songs "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" originated from the same recording sessions and were issued on a single in August 1968. The album's songs range in style from British blues and ska to tracks influenced by Chuck Berry and by Karlheinz Stockhausen.

On release, The Beatles received favourable reviews from the majority of music critics, but other commentators found its satirical songs unimportant and apolitical amid the turbulent political and social climate of 1968. The band and Martin have since debated whether the group should have released a single album instead. Nonetheless, The Beatles reached number one on the charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States and has since been viewed by some critics as one of the greatest albums of all time.

13 smilers voted for 5 tracks.

5 smilers have nothing to add... especially a monkey!

Welcome back Smilers! Sorry for the  break. It was my birthday weekend, so I was busy having fun.

Remember to Vote OFF your LEAST FAVORITE TRACK.

Tally on October 12

Birthday
Yer Blues
Mother Nature's Son
Sexy Sadie
Helter Skelter
Long, Long, Long
Revolution 1
Honey Pie
Savoy Truffle
Cry Baby Cry
Good Night

Round#1 Revolution 9 October 3
Round#2 Everybody's Got Something To Hide (Except For Me and My Monkey) October 7

Side two is stronger (IMO) than side one. This side is tougher for me to vote stuff out.

Tough choice for me between Savoy Truffle and Honey Pie....

Savoy Truffle

Round#2 Everybody's Got Something To Hide (Except For Me and My Monkey) October 7
Fantastic! Boring shouty pointless dreck's gone! Shoo shoo shoo Smiley John's really bad at writing rockers. Paul has natural gift for it, Beatles & solo career (though cover albums I dislike by both, with few exceptions).

"Sadie" next to boot.

Which John solo song you've got in mind against, for example, rockers in Ram?

Easy.

"Cold Turkey" rocks far harder than anything Paul has ever done.

"I Found Out".

"Well Well Well"

Pretty much the ENTIRE Plastic Ono Band album.

Heck, even "(Just Like) Starting Over" rocks harder in a traditional 50's sense than most of Paul's solo stuff.

All these pitted against what? "Too Many People" or "Monkberry Moon Delight"?  LOL

I think by the time John turned 31 he felt like he had mostly out grown trying to rock like he was still a kid.

I think your opinion of  Paul being a harder rocker sort of aligns with your idea that music should always be sunny and positive.

Anyhoo, I can appreciate Paul's strengths. For example, he was a much better producer and his song writing craft was more  consistent than John's. I think you are just too dogmatically anti-John at this point.

So, um, rock away.

It was battle to vote off a George song this week. With only 10 votes it didn't take me a very long, long, long, looooooong time to count (4 votes).

Honey Pie.

I like some of Paul's throwback type songs (Martha My Dear especially), but Honey Pie does little for me.

2 pixletwin: Thanks to the detailed answer. Point-by-point:

Can't stand "Cold Turkey" since 1st listen. Don't like as a whole Plastic Ono Band. I didn't hear anything as cool by John as "Jet" - it's rocker thru & thru. I'm glad Paul still sings it.

"Just Like Starting Over" rocks? Hm, not sure about it.

It's very sporting of you to say I'm "dogmatically" anti-John but I hope you're sitting right now as I do like some of his songs. F.ex. "God", "Crippled Inside", "Dear John", "Mother" (Anthology Ascot version), to tell just few.

Yes, I did say I like positive music. What you're trying to say there? Can't rockers be positive? Aren't there positive rockers? To me, perfect rocker is sth. fun, full of energy, catchy, not overly pointlessly long till you get bored by it, with too much guitar soloing which yells "Coz we can!". "Jet" fits the "perfect rocker" bill. You clearly like deep stuff, a la "Cold Turkey". Which, btw, is YOUR opinion. It isn't fact if you read lotsa people/ critics say it. It's too just THEIR opinions, obviously. Sure we can agree to that?

And yes, Dear John is a great little vignette. Spooky too. Almost like he had premonitions.

Iíve been out a while. What a weak bunch of songs. I only like 2-3 of them.

Will pick Sexy Sadie to go.
