Some of you may already have done this, or perhaps tried it as a ringtone for your mobile phone. I've only got a land line phone, and never owned an answering machine (don't really get too many incoming calls that I need one). However, if I had the chance, I know which snippet of music I'd pick.

I like all kinds of music, and my choice for a snippet would be the vocal interjection by The Fat Boys on the 1987 collaborative single, "Wipeout", which charted a respectable #12 on the Hot 100 and did even better in the UK chart, peaking at #2, three places higher than the original instrumental by The Surfaris.

Some people might find this to be heresy and consider "Wipeout" a low point in our band's career. Not me. I think old school hip hop can be very forceful and if you use the interjection, "It was the Beach Boys rockin', the wipeout!", you get a presentation of our band, naming the band in a most powerful and exuberant way. What better way to get your message across, that you like the Beach Boys and their music. Plus, you work in the surf rock angle, too, going back to the band's roots.

Here ya go, 2:26 into the video:

Years ago, we used the instrumental of "Wouldn't It Be Nice".  At the point where the vocals begin, we said "Wouldn't it be nice if we were home right now..

I'm torn between Al's "phew ~ it's time for me to meditate" part on the intro of TM Song and the bridge of Long Promised Road.

I'm torn between Al's "phew ~ it's time for me to meditate" part on the intro of TM Song and the bridge of Long Promised Road.

You mean the sung bridge? That would be awesome!

We were holidaying in Spain a couple of years ago and had lunch in a non-touristy restaurant in a little town in the Madrid area. All of a sudden we heard the first sung line of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" blasting out. It was a ring tone belonging to one of a group of Spaniards a couple of tables away. For a moment I thought I was hallucinating, it was so surreal. But I digress.

How about the punchline from "I'd Love Just Once To See You"?  LOL

I used to have "Carl's Big Chance" playing in the background of my answering machine message years ago.

"Hello, I'm the pied piper from the faraway land of night.  Nobody knows anything about my existence.  I only want to know kids, late at night when people are sleeping, I go into their own radios and turn them into magic transistors and fly outside with them.  I come from such a far away land of Night, that I'm fascinated with the funny music I hear on your radios.
You are the first to know me. You can't see me, I'm hidden, but you can see the green glow I make.
I heard you laugh last night. I figured that you would be amused by me."

On the other hand, maybe I don't want people to call the authorities on me after hearing that.

For some reason I used to use the vegatables chat between Hal Blaine and Brian - "I spend a lot of time on the weekend growing those vegetable" etc - People were not impressed waiting for it to end to leave message  Grin
