Wow. He did some great work in his latter years. We were really lucky to have him around in this lifetime. Rest In Peace, indeed.

Comment:

A major loss of a music icon.

FYI - Glen Campbell played with the Beach Boys from December 1964 to early March 1965, Campbell was a touring member of The Beach Boys, filling in for Brian Wilson. He also played guitar on the band's Pet Sounds (1966) album, among other recordings. On tour, he played bass guitar and sang falsetto harmonies.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

yes.  Love 2008's "Meet Glen Campbell".  "Ghost on the Canvas" is also good.

Given the terrible circumstances of the last few years, it is a release.

Adios.

That's really sad to hear.

His documentary on his battle was really inspiring. RIP Glen.

Sad that he's gone but at least he's at peace. Alzheimer's is a disease I hope I or any family members never get.

So sad. Alzheimer's is very prevalent in my family so I know what a devastating disease it is. I'm glad that Glen didn't suffer one day longer. And yet his life was so worthwhile. What an incredible mark this man made on the world, as a session musician, a Beach Boy and a star.

So sad. Glen Campbell was truly a great one. A few weeks ago a friend showed me this amateur video of Wichita Lineman (with actual linemen working) and I found it so melancholic and poignant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVmnu5HfFIg
Rest in Peace, Glen.

He had a GREAT career.  All the l.p.s he contributed to...plus 60 studio albums of his own.  Glen Campbell certainly made his mark.  One of music's all time greats.

He fought the great fight, recorded and toured with his realities in mind.  I'd say that Glen won.  [and so did we]  His family must be ever-so-proud.  His legacy is real.

No, I don't think he ever sang on any Beach Boys recordings.  But he did play guitar on several Beach Boys songs.

Songs that featured his guitar playing
(According to Craig Slowinski):
I Get Around
Dance, Dance, Dance
Please Let Me Wonder
Help Me, Ronda
You Still Believe In Me
Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)
I Know There's An Answer (he played the banjo on this one too)
I Just Wasn't Made for These Times
Caroline No

And those are probably only a few he played on.

His loss has greatly impacted me as well as the countless fans all over the world. I lost two Grandmothers to this disease. May his soul be finally at peace, and his family be blessed.

As many others have said, I'm sad to hear this but glad that he's finally at rest. I remember my grandfather playing Rhinestone Cowboy for me when I was a kid. I was surprised to find out many years later that that same guy played such a huge role in The Beach Boys. And Wichita Lineman is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I usually can't bring myself to play songs from an artist who has recently passed, but I think I'm going to go give that one a listen in his honour. R.I.P.
