I'm Wondering If This Was An Intentional Joke by Brian?

Brian caps off this interview, with a great response. I love his sense of humor because it is often so deadpan. But do you think it was intentional? I read that he was a good baseball player, but still... and he had the beard first.

Today, Brian lives a sober and settled life in Beverly Hills with Melinda and their children, aged between seven and 20. He starts a typical day "by watching the morning news" before going to the deli for breakfast. "I can usually get myself calm with a good walk... Some days I find my way back up to the piano." I wonder what would he have liked to have been, if he not a musician? He muses, "I would have been a baseball player, you know."

I think it was both serious and a reference to the former Giants pitcher at the same time.

Well he wouldn't have been a professional ballplayer, didn't he hit something like .167 and quit the team in high school?

If I recall, Brian was a big Yankees fan as a child.  Major League Baseball had yet to make it to California, and wouldn't until Brian was 15.

I think it's a moot point.  I don't imagine that Brian could even conceive of being anything other than a musician and composer.  It would be like asking a dog what it would be if it couldn't be a dog.  It's all academic.
