Hi everyone. Just thought I'd mention that tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 am EST I will be doing a one-hour interview about The Beach Boys on Delaware radio station WDEL.

I'm slated to discuss the time the group was in effect banned from playing the July 4th show at the Washington Mall. And then there's the 50th anniversary of 1967: no SMiLE and Monterey Pop, but Smiley Smile and Wild Honey. No doubt I'll be mentioning the forthcoming Sunshine Tomorrow release. You can listen in online.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Darn, was out of town and missed this. Just checked the WDEL site and didn't see it archived. Is this program archived somewhere for listening after the fact?

Hey CM,

I'm told it will be archived. As soon as I have a link I'll share it with y'all. It was a lot of fun to do.

OK, took a while but better late than never. I had a great time chatting with WDEL's Frank Gregory about the time the group was banned from performing the July 4 concert at the Washington Mall, Pet Sounds, the group's influence on The Beatles--and vice versa--and I try to dispel some myths around Smile. You can listen to parts one and two at the links below.
