The Beatles Survivor #9 Winner: A DAY IN THE LIFE

We find ourselves at what many believe is the "Toppermost of the Poppermost".
Quote
Sgt. Pepper is regarded by musicologists as an early concept album that advanced the use of extended form in popular music while continuing the artistic maturation seen on the Beatles' preceding releases. It has been described as one of the first art rock LPs, aiding the development of progressive rock, and credited with marking the beginning of the Album Era. An important work of British psychedelia, the album incorporates a range of stylistic influences, including vaudeville, circus, music hall, avant-garde, and Western and Indian classical music. In 2003, the Library of Congress placed Sgt. Pepper in the National Recording Registry, honouring the work as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".[1] That same year, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number one in its list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". As of 2011, it has sold more than 32 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in history. Professor Kevin J. Dettmar, writing in the Oxford Encyclopedia of British Literature, described it as "the most important and influential rock and roll album ever recorded"

I confess to no longer being a fan of a lot of songs on this album, so will probably go with the majority opinion for the most part in the early rounds.
So - Reprise

Lovely Rita Meter Maid.
On a side note, I'm probably one of the few people in the world who thinks Getting Better is the best song on this album.

I don't dislike it. It's just my least favorite. I like the hard rocking of the reprise better than the comb-kazoos.

Rita is the only song on the album that sounds dated to me (all the little sound effects Paul added in haven't aged well IMO, sounds a bit amateur). It's on OK song, but clearly to me the weakest, with Reprise following closely behind.

I was trying to think of the songs I skip when I pull SPLHCB songs into a playlist. This one never makes it.

Getting Better
Love this song, but... just slightly less than the rest of what's left. And it does feel just a wee bit out of place, like it would have fit better on Rubber Soul.
