Today's song is Mona Kana.

The name didn't register at first but it transpires I know the track from the Get the Boot album.

This is beautiful! The brooding verse recalls "Three Blind Mice" and "Sweet Mountain".

Five.

Today's song is Mona Kana.

I sure would like to hear what this would've sounded like with vocals. I dig the horns and the plunky sounds. Nice arrangement. FOUR

I had never heard this before!

Here's the link if anyone else is like me and hadn't heard it...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYBXddFbDSs

A beautiful tune, I could listen to Dennis play the piano for days on end.

Today's song is A Time to Live In Dreams

This was a rewarding find. I always wondered why this was never used by Dennis or the BBs. Some subtle BB overdubs could have gone a long way.

3.5 (rounded up to 4)

I had never heard this before!

Wow! Your lucky day!

Edit: It's on Hawthorne, CA (2001). That and the Endless Harmony Soundtrack (1998) have some REALLY cool stuff.

10/5, including the weird mix from MIC (though I prefer the original).

One thing I find fascinating: I really really dislike Loop De Loop - it’s reminds me of a circus. But Sail Plane Song (essentially the exact same song) is on a whole other level...it is dark and mysterious. Where Loop De Loop sounds like the guys are singing about a literal airplane (just because of the cheesy production), ‘Sail Plane Song’ sounds like Brian is singing about getting high, but in a dark way...it doesn’t sound happy at all even though the lyrics are happy.

Anywho, just my observation.

Hey you said new reason to like "Loop De Loop"! Big fan here of anything to do with circus - music, numbers, clowns, tricks, barkers. It's bizarre, it's fun! :D I didn't think about it listening to LDL but it DOES scream "circus". Well spotted. But, to tell it simply, the hyperbolic laughter, mischief, Boys being total goofs in LDL is what really makes it likeable.

"Sail Plane Song" lacks it. 3.

Oopsie daisy - should add I'm glad TTLID received 2 3's.

Well I’m glad some can enjoy it for the circus vibe...Maybe one day I’ll warm up to it too Smiley

Thanks, rab. New on me too. Always a joy to listen to Dennis. Five (if I'm not too late).

And "Sail Plane Song" gets five from me too. ("LDL" would stall at four).

Sail Plane Song gets 5 from me. I love it for the same reasons mentioned by rab, and I just really dig psychedelic Brian. I prefer this version over Loop De Loop as well.

5/5

Every time I listen to this I wonder why it was never more popular. But then I remember that story about The Beach Boys being intentionally snubbed from east coast radio. It wasn’t their lack of good songs, it was the ignorance of the music industry that led to their unpopularity. What a shame that happened because this whole album deserves more fame than it gets.

My favorite parts about it is those harmonies during the chorus, and the crazy percussion. If I remember correctly the lyrics were somewhat influenced by the Door’s ‘Break on Through’...or am I imagining that?

Today's song is Slip On Through.

There's so much going on here. The "inside-out drums", the brass, the background vocals, that weird electronic sounding tick towards the end... And of course, Dennis singing his heart out with some great falsetto thrown in.

A fantastic opener. Five.

Today's song is Slip On Through.

Big 5 !!!
Dennis's voice is incredible on this song. What a crackin' way to start the album. Such a rocker! I love the backing vocals and how they weave in and out under Dennis's lead. Shame it was an unsuccessful single. But at that point any single good or bad would've flopped for them. In my opinion this is one of Dennis's best.

Nice to see "Sail Plane Song" getting 3 3's! Smiley

"Slip On Through" - hm, do I see that nobody mentioned the MIC box set? People used to say "I didn't like SOT but this vocals version is revelation, wow!". These opinions change too fast. Just like "Tears" case - blink people hate it, blink they LOVE it.
This Dennis track is in Top 3 favorite in Sunflower. Should be single, agree. It's catchy & cool. With "Do You Wanna Dance", great Dennis lead. 5.
